Download full firmware (simply type in the installed firmware version including the J at the end) -> copy the 0004001000020800.cia file to SD after generation and install.

You could type in the title ID and download the latest version of that title directly, it should work fine. I forgot that the updates don't include every title.

Tried to back up my cia from another JP 3DS as I can’t find a cia anywhere but now it’s a black square and boots with an error

dump it with godmode9 and do a (legit) cia dump

the black square is likely because the cia you made is unencrypted, and nand titles need to be encrypted to work. (standard) cia dumps come decrypted and with a fake ticket, (legit) cia dumps keep the encryption and leave the signatures intact

if you dont get a legit cia then it will never work without cfw, which is probably fine if you never planned on removing cfw, but it's worth keeping in mind

Oh hey, I'm sorry to revive this old topic but I just found myself in the same situation as the OP but when I tried this 3DNUS can't find anything with that title ID

EDIT (02/08/2026): Nevermind, figured it out. In case anyone is wondering just type this in the 3DNUS search bar for the latest firmware at the time:
000400100002080 v11.17.0-50U

then find the 000400100002080.cia in the new folder. THAT is the StreetPass Mii Plaza cia.

Oh hey, I'm sorry to revive this old topic but I just found myself in the same situation as the OP but when I tried this 3DNUS can't find anything with that title ID

EDIT (02/08/2026): Nevermind, figured it out. In case anyone is wondering just type this in the 3DNUS search bar for the latest firmware at the time:
000400100002080 v11.17.0-50U

then find the 000400100002080.cia in the new folder. THAT is the StreetPass Mii Plaza cia.

That title ID is for J region, for U region it's 00021800 instead of 00020800. For E region it's 00022800.
