I am planning to buy a Wii U Wind Waker HD bundle and i am planning to mod it when the time comes, so i dont wish to update it beyond 5.1.

Is there any way to still use the Wind Waker HD download code despite the new update?

Short Answer NO.

Long Answer Sell the download code for half the money and buy a hard copy of the game

Yeah, i guess the bundle is still worth it after all. Won't the value as a collectible decline tho if the code is gone?

I imagine i will have some sort of leaflet where i need to scratch open the code? (Like one those Scratch and win lottery tickets), but i may be completely wrong here.

no its not a scratch off. i bought that system and i used the code for myself because i was low on funds

Buy the Zelda bundle, update to latest version, download the game using the code and hope for the people who are hacking wii u to find another exploit.

Absolutely not!
I buy a limited edition that is guaranteed to be hackable and desirable in the future for those specific reasons and then completely ruin it on the off-chance there may be another exploit?
No thanks. I am with razielleonhart on this.

Hacks for future versions will come. Chances are even the devs will be running 5.1.1 by the time we release anything.

So what you are saying is that it is guaranteed that those who update now won't receive homebrew any later than others?

Shrug. Whether or not the kernel exploit is found before a new browser/whatever else userland exploit is, we'll probably wait for both before releasing anything. I wouldn't really consider the exploit 'finished' and ready for release without a new userland exploit anyways.

Then i thank you very much for your kind replies to my question! I intend to fully update my Wii U then when it arrives, so i can play Wind Waker HD and certainly hope this won't bite me in the ass one day when it suddenly turns out that a higher firmware version will take a very long time to be hacked or it isn't hackable anymore...

you could sell the download code and buy a physical copy....tbh i always do that when the game is a digital copy, even if i have to put a bit of money on top, at least if i ever want to i can sell the physical copy instead of having it tied to the console
