So, Nintendo's making it 20$ a year to have online services for the Switch. But along with the service, you also get a retro game, like Super Mario Bros, or balloon fight. So doesn't that mean, for this to be true, there would also have to be a virtual console of some sort on the switch? just wondering...

Y'know? The answer was given to us when they announced the service..

I thought the price had been announced to be going up to 30 a year?

There are still some small groups theorizing the service to being powered by old xbox live servers. Basically, we will be paying nintendo's rental fee for them

I believe you get a collection of retro games that you can play at any time while you're still subscribed. NES games for now, with SNES possibly coming later. Also, Virtual Console is definitely on its way. I'm guessing they're going to wait 'till the Online service is out before releasing virtual console.

No, it's still $20 as far as we know. And as for being powered by old Xbox Live servers, I've never heard of that rumor until you mentioned it just now. Did a quick Google search and couldn't find anything related to it. So... I don't really know what to say. I wouldn't give the rumor much credibility, but even if it were true, I don't think it'd matter too much. Servers are servers, if they do the job well, there's nothing to complain about.

I think it's just one NES/SNES classic a month for free when subscribed, but with added online play. Who knows what (if any) discounts they might have for subscribers in Virtual Console.

No, they changed it, and confirmed that it was changed from what it originally was. You get multiple games that can be downloaded and played at any time, not just one.

So...who's up for paying for Super Mario 1 again? They should make it an event every time.

Hmmm. I wonder if this means the completion of classic games are the games from the mini classic systems they are selling. So far those would be famlicom, nes, super famlicom and snes.

I think I heard that the virtual console games will have online multiplayer. God I hope so, 2 player super mario world TAKE TURNS Lol, 3 player secret of mana. :P

I can't defend my own spending as I bought three vitas and two switches. I own two snes consoles, my own backlit modded handhelds, the framemeister AND the ossc yaddayaddayadda. It's this goddamn notion of seeing the headlines "This week on switch VC: Super Mario World, Secret of Mana, Bomberman, Killer Instinct" with a discount if you buy all of them. Paying for these damn retro games over and over. Anyways...grumpy me can go on and on. Guess what! We already have VC! on twenty platforms! Am I alone here? I bet I am.

Pretty alone on this one. Yeah, we've got VC on a lot of platforms, and we've got emulators on just about everything, but Switch is a portable unlike other VC consoles. A much better portable for gaming (physical controllers, large screen) than a smartphone at that. It's not like you have to re-buy the entire SNES library, there are maybe around 10 games I'd feel the need to buy, and there's no guarantee those are the ones that get released.

The Switch might get N64, but other than that it won't be any better than the 3ds. The 3ds was really good for emulation since the screen was 240p so you even got something similar to scanlines.

I meant to say emulators really, I could care less about VC other than the 3ds injects are cool. The vita is an excellent emulation console.

Switch is probably strong enough to emulate everything up to Wii TBH. We'll see how much they take advantage of that.

More powerful system.. If the screen is what you have to go off of? Then I have to wonder...

Since it's Nintendo or M2 themselves developing the emulators, the Switch will definitely be able to emulate GameCube. Wii, maybe.
