If someone in the US breaks an arm and is uninsured, it would be cheaper for that person to fly to Canada or even Cuba to have it fixed. That's the tragedy of the health care system. We're one of the richest countries in the world, and we can't even take care of our own.

Yeah, I just found this out recently from an Indian co-worker. He had a problem with his knee and needed surgery. Here in the US his surgery would cost him around $70,000. So, instead he went to his home country and got the same surgery by doctor who specialized in that field for about $4,000. With the round trip ticket plus the surgery he still come out paying less than half the cost he would have had to pay. I found this rather ridiculous and this problem really should be fixed.

FEFL - Yes, we all had high hopes for Obama, but he's only a brand, nothing more. He rode a wave of bankers money to the White House and now he's following orders.
Like what?

The very first thing he did was appoint cabinet positions for Gold Sacks and associated bankers which included tax cheats. Then he handed them $700 Billion with no questions asked (yes, right after a bigger gift from Bush & co.).

But this article goes into more detail on these and other gifts from his administration:

Ouch. So you work with him...if he had to fly to India for that surgery, I can assume your job doesn't provide health insurance.

Uh, it's called Health Insurance. Even crappy jobs provide it.
I guess someone was wrong. Even some decent jobs don't provide it. And if you're self-employed, you're worse off than someone who works for, say, Borders Books.

Private-only health care falls down on a very simple principle, it makes no business sense whatsoever to insure someone who's ill. You might as well ask for a car insurance quote for a vehicle that's on fire.

Obama is the weakest man alive. He made so many promisses and took them all back now that he's feeling the real heat of North American politics. He is a shame to the world.
I agree. He's an idiot. If people are already having trouble paying their bills, why the Hell should he increase their taxes?
I've never seen so much bullshit in one post.
If people are having trouble paying their bills, no way they can afford hospital bills if they get sick.

It's extremely difficult for Obama to keep his promises in this country. Just because the way our country works. Idiots follow the bandwagons and make a majority even if it isn't best for the country.
If it is extremely difficult for him.. why did he take those promises? Hyprocites... New World Order and shit... Fu** off and die.

He made those promises to get elected. Does it even matter? If McCain had won the election, our health care would be in no better shape than it is now. I've already said it before, why can't people understand that NO PRESIDENT alone can fix the US health care system? It's the hospital administrators, board members, directors and insurance company CEOs who profit from health care who need to be changed. The problem is that every time a member of Congress pushes a bill on health care reform, those who run the health care industry just pay off the Congress members so that they (Congress) will vote they way they (hospital/insurance company head honchos) want them to vote. Basically they tell Congress "Psst, hey. Health care reform isn't cool. If it happens, my paycheck will decrease. I'll pay you x amount of money if you vote against health care reform." And of course the members of Congress will take the money. They paid Hillary Clinton to shut up, they paid George W. Bush--pretty much everyone in Congress with the power to change anything had their vote bought. It's glorified bribery.

So before anyone goes off and blames Obama as the single reason for our fucked up health care, do your research.

Noooooo! Hot button issues don't work on GBAtemp! This is gonna end up like the "Is God real?" topic and have like a bagillion pages of bickering until one of the mods just goes "Good chat. LOCK."

I say just fuck the Constitution and make America a socialized country and we'll all be happy. People are always like "OBAMA IS GONNA MAKE US SOCIALIST!" Yeah, as if that scares me. I want a socialist country.

As for health care, we could use it, especially with a lot of people losing their health care nowadays since a lot of people are losing their jobs or just have to seriously tighten the belt.

Except the people having trouble paying their bills are actually having their taxes cut.

Well...I'm surprised after reading four pages of this junk. That this topic didn't get 'derailed' nor '"off-topic"' lol.

Does anyone remember that from the Great Depression, the people where so poor that they couldn't pay for health insurance if something happened to them. That's when the health care comes in, it was a temporary system to give people health insurance in case anything bad happens to them.

I can't really type anything that hasn't been said on this topic, the one thing I'm feeling confused is why does the Gays,Lesbians,Homo,Trans have a month to themselves but the president isn't stopping the student metrocards from disappearing.

(Oi, this post didn't make any sense)

QUOTE(sumarth @ Dec 26 2009, 07:52 PM) a better alternative could be a choice of a health savings account in which you must keep a sustained $10,000 or something to pay for possible medical costs. of course this should be a choice, which is what is needed
The problem with that is that big medical expenses make $10,000 look like chump change. Have a baby 3 months premature? You're looking at close to $1,000,000 in expenses before Junior even comes home. Break your neck? Millions over the course of your life, and you probably can't work to keep your insurance, much less pay those expenses yourself.

$10,000 won't pay for two weeks in the hospital NOT counting any surgeries or any other big treatments or expenses; that's just the price of staying there. Just getting an ambulance ride to the emergency room costs close to $1,000 by itself.

LOL...that is too funny. Why is it that if someone blames Obama they have not done any research? BTW, here is a good link to read for those who are interested:

Nicely said Densetsu mate. The one thing stopping any real change in the American health care system is the people making huge profits from it. Like any corporation they're out to make money, and lots of it. I'm not a big fan of Obama, but it's not down to his health care plans. I don't think they're the best solution, but it's definitely a leap forward from what's there now. The thing that people seem to forget is they're already spending a fortune on health care, if the load was lightened and spread around through taxes certain people would have to spend less and yeah unfortunately the poor do suffer a little bit of a knockback in their wages but the benefits far out-weigh it. Most Americans loathe having to pay extra taxes though, I don't know why exactly but I'm guessing it's probably an old thing stemming back to the reason the revolution happened to start with.

Totally agree with you Guild. Socialism is actually a great political structure if run correctly. I don't know much about the American constitution though, save for some of the Amendments and the more well known parts of it. What exactly is un-constitutional about socialism?
