it's safe to shrink and separate a partition.. IF you do things the right way...

i've done it hundreds of times... and have yet to lose any data..

the right way yo do it is..

1) have some padding.. its not a good idea to shrink your 250GB into a 200GB and a 50GB if you already have 200GB worth of data.. have at least 10% of the (to be created) 200GB free..

2) Defragment... most (if not ALL) people that lose data when repartitioning is because the files are SOOOO fragmented that they get corrupt once you partition..

3) use the right tools.. personally i use Gparted in my opinion it's the BEST there is.. it does everything by the book, and its very safe...

and that is all..

after you do all that and you have the partitions setup..

you should use a WBFS GUI, just because they're easy to use

ohh and to re-expand (merge) the partition.. again you can use Gparted

ok thanks a lot.

which usb loader do people use/recommend?

if i get tired of this, how do i format my partition to expand the other one and "join" them again together?

Most popular and personal best is USB Loader GX
You won't get bored but you may more than likely buy a dedicated bigger HD
But you can format and join again

No you don't patch the isos and no won't ask you to update and 001/002 errors are taken care of.
Only a few of games don't work, think there is a thread about it a couple of thread back. Do a search forums

thanks a lot guys

i was considering on buying a dedicated drive for this, but dont think can afford it... (buying x360 at the moment, whipes me out lol...)

unless i can convice parents of buying it, but it should be at the usa at the same time they bring my 360 from there... here hdds are REALLY expensive...

An average game is about 2-3 GB. Brawl is about 6.5 GB. Wii sports and wii play and such are pretty much nothing (like .1-.2 GB). If a game iso you have is really small when scrubbed it will be less than or about the same in wbfs. Do the math with the games you have.

ok i made calculations and:

i need at least 75 GB i think, i freed up space on my HDD and i have 121 GB left, i could assign 115 GB partition, but would leave me very little space for my stuff...

i should buy a dedicated one for the wii... any donations?

You could always delete titles from it when you get bored playing them if you have them backed up to DVD or have the Backup ISO's. It only talk a couple of minutes to add a title anyway.

it can currupt your video and audio files when splitting a drive rather than formatting and partitioning it....So be sure your PARTITIONING not splitting the drive with a tool such as nortons Partition magic whitch seems to be the popular tool lately...

Good luck homie

How do you split a drive? If I use the Ubuntu Live CD, resize my 1TB partition, create a new primary partition and format it to WBFS will I be doing the right thing?
