Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to read this post :)
I've recently acquired a 3DS XL v4.5 on which I installed a CFW (palentine) with DevMenu as well as some 3DS games.
the problem is, I also have a R4i flashcard, and when I plugged it into the 3DS, I couldn't boot up the CFW anymore through the DS profile.
I had to reformat my SD card and reinstall everything.
Is this a known bug, or did I just do something wrong ?

Everytime you play a DS game, the DS profile exploit gets erased. Your best option is to use RXTools instead of Palantine anyway. RXTools has Emunand and can be used to install Cias and do some other useful stuff.

ah I see, so can I use RxTools even though I don't have a proper 3DS flashcard (like gateway or sky3ds) ?
Thanks.
It uses the browser exploit, so if your 3DS doesn't have the browser it won't work.
All you have to do after playing a DS game is to run the Gateway_installer.nds again to reinstall the profile exploit.

so all I have to do after playing a ds game, is run the gateway_installer.nds file from the linker, and ds exploit will be setup again ?

EDIT: I can run the browser just fine on 3DS, that's how I setup the CFW in the first place, so, is it possible to use RxTools ?

Everytime you play a DS game, the DS profile exploit gets erased.
You can make the exploit 'stick' by doing this:
1) Install the exploit using the N3DS_ROPInstaller.nds; e.g. Profile Name: slslasher
2) Go to settings and change Profile Name to another one; e.g. Profile Name: slslasher01
3) Launch a DS game, exploit would be gone
4) Install the exploit using the N3DS_ROPInstaller.nds again and it should be stuck

Extra Steps because I want to change back my original profile name
5) Go to settings and change Profile Name to my original one; e.g. Profile Name: slslasher
6) Launch exploit and test, there should be an error.
7) Install the exploit using the N3DS_ROPInstaller.nds again and it should be stuck

I see, thanks! for now I tried launching rxinstaller.nds (available with the rxtools 2.6 package) from my R4i and it works again.
as to how to make it stick, does it have to be done with n3ds_ropInstaller.nds ? can't it be done with rxinstaller.nds ?
Thanks again.
