Because a lot of people asked, here's a list of 7.X encrypted games (which won't work on cfw), feel free to complete it :) :

- Azure Striker Gunvolt
- Big Hero 6: Battle In The Bay
- Code Name : S.T.E.A.M.
- Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley
- Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
- Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
- Mutant Mudds (US)
- Nintendo Pocket Football Club
- Pokemon Art Academy
- Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby
- Pokemon Shuffle
- Shingeki no Kyojin CHAIN
- Shantae and the Pirates Curse
- Super Smash Bros. for 3DS
- Sonic Boom
- The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask 3D
- Tomodachi Life (EU/US)
- Ultimate Nes Remix

And Pokemon X/Y doesn't work on cfw too (crash on save) , even if it's not 7.X encrypted.

Edit : This post is not updated anymore, check this list instead : http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_Titles_with_7.x_Encryption

Just retail for the list or Eshop games as well?

Shantae and the pirates curse
Azure Striker Gunvolt
Pocket football club

All use 7.X encryption, all are Eshop games.

Are you sure about this? Every time I try a 7.x/8.x/9.x it freezes...

Yes. I can play Fantasy Life (an 8.1 game) just fine on my 4.5CFW. Has to be FW-spoofed and such (IIRC), but it works fine. Even games like Pokemon can run fine, with the exception of saving (due to it being the 6.X+ saving or w/e).

Nope, only a few games use it,even Fantasy Life and Persona Q (8.1) don't use it.

The "update partition" version included in the cartridge DOES NOT determine the encryption key used for the game.
The game content is based on the SDK used by the developers and the choice they made to use or not use specific encryption method for savegame.

at manufacturing time, the cartridge has the latest update partition version added to it, even if the game does not need or doesn't use it.

instead of pinning another useless thread that nobody will read, you can create a wiki page that nobody will read.
But at least, it will always be at the same place! not buried in the forum's backlog, and everybody can participate ... in hope they understand what they are doing.

make a wiki page, provide a method to determine the encryption key (rom tool, etc.) so users can verify their data before adding wrong info.

The Wiki homepage has a 3DS section with categories to find all pages related to 3DS. It's easy to find something.

thanks for creating the page.

I don't like the name "CFW" even if it's the word used by the guy who leaked it the first time.
for me a custom firmware is what you install on your console to replace the default firmware and always launch the patched one at boot (PSP, PS3, etc.)

3DS "CFW" are only Redirected NANDs. (not even emulated NAND)
I wished we could educate users to use proper terms, but it's maybe to late now, everyone is referring to redNAND as CFW :(

Don't forget that it patches out checks. So it is more a combination of the two. Even some PSP CFWs did nothing more than spoof the UMD.
