Hello all. I'm just looking to confirm something b4 hacking a hardly used 3ds so I got

This 3ds is running 7.1.0-15u
Is this a full update or is it from a cartridge
The site im was using for a guide said I can use soundhax but if my update came from a cartridge that the 3ds sound app wouldn't have been updated and soundhax wouldn't work

So in just trying to figure out if this is possible for me or not ATM before attempting to mod it ...

If there is a better/newer way please if you would link me to it I'd be so appreciative

Ty all so much

If I remember correctly, -14 and bellow are cartridge updates, while -15 and above are full updates. However, you can actually just test if Soundhax works without anything bad happening, so just try it:P

It's a full update, but even if it were a cart update, SoundHax would've likely worked anyway
Soundhax doesn't work on versions that are too old, so stuff like browserhax and the like are used for even older firmwares.

SoundHax has been updated to work all the way down to 3.0.0

Didn't know that, but kinda strange since the exploit SoundHax uses didn't exist in older firmwares...

Techinaclly the otherapp payload didn't exist (it only went down to 9.2.0), but someone ported it to lower versions

That's not what I meant, the exploit is based on a random overflow and was supposed to only be possible because it was a bug in the updated sound app. I guess someone managed to pull it off on lower firmwares then updated Soundhax, may look into it more sometime...

According to this, the exploit is the same on all versions where it's supported (although it's a little different between pre 5.0 and post 5.0 since they use two different files)

Hey guys so umm yeah... Im on the first step here trying to run soundhax for the first time on try #15ish and I keep getting "an error has occurred. Forcing the software to close . Restart blah blah blah

I see y'all talking about random overflow so I'm guessing it's normal for it to be a random chance to start the exploit ? So basically in asking so I just need to continue until it works or am I doing something wrong ?
In pretty sure I have all the correct files for my ofw her.. :/
Ty for all you're help !!!

Make sure you got the right SoundHax and the right otherapp files for your firmware version
