Man, I was the .hack series was fucking glorified in the united states. Despite the shitty combat system I loved the hell out of both series on the PS2. May look into purchasing them again and playing off my laptop. Anyhoo, as per the topic, in no particular order.

1. Final Fantasty Tactics: War of the Lion
2. Monster Hunter (that latest one in japan with translation patch.)
3. Phantasy Star Portable 2 (whatever that extra release was.)
4. ... I'll come back and finish this list later, I don't remember many games, well I know tons but which makes the actual list you know.

Side note, was there ever a Makai Kingdom for the PSP?

I've heard good things about One Piece. The story hasn't been translated to english though, correct? I would have a tough time getting into an RPG with Japanese text.

Well One Piece is awesome!!Yeah the story hasn't be translated but this shouldn't be a problem if you watch the anime! The rest of the game is English translated! ;)

Here's Mine:

5. YS Series
-there's 2 of them I believe!
-very cool gameplay
4. Persona 3 Portable
-the best turn based RPG in PSP
3. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
-the story is just... wow! and the gameplay, top of the line!
2. Monster Hunter Franchise
-playing with others brings the fun to a different level
-a lot debating about the gameplay being slow, but that's what makes the series cool, you are regular hunters with no super powers or whatever. You have your sword in your hand, huge monster in front of you... you know what to do next! :)
1. Peace Walker
-not the best metal gear (it'd be best if they incorporate Snake Eater's eating and treating your injury mechanics,
one of the best graphics in PSP and depth story that is expected for MGS! ..and you can team up with your friends! :)

1. MGS Peace Walker
2. Metal Gear Solid (got into the psp scene ONLY to play this game)
3. Persona 3
4. Tekken 6
5. Monster Hunter 3 (this game is only mentioned because of the lack of psp titles i've played. The camera becomes an absolute nuisance in the later battles)

I honestly couldn't think of any other PSP game I liked enough to be top 5 worthy. I wouldn't have put VCII as I haven't really played it for more than 2 hours or so but I needed something to finish the list. Also Project Diva is fun.

Does Gundamn Seed: Federation Vs. ZAFT play anything like Federation vs Zeon do you know? I loved that game on PS2, was simple though it's easily top ten game for me.

Yes, it is a sequel of sorts. You can think of it as Fed vs Zeon but with Gundam Seed units and characters. The gameplay is a bit faster and the boost/dash bar lasts longer (because so many units in Seed had backpacks for extra propulsion).

From my research it doesn't seem like it got a north america release? Am I missing it, or a translation?

You are correct, no North American release or translation. I believe the game's release and the show's airing in NA didn't coincide, so they passed up the opportunity. Damn shame too, because I actually prefer it to Fed vs Zeon, despite liking the UC characters and storyline a lot more. I personally consider the PS2 sequel (Seed Destiny: Fed vs ZAFT II+) to be one of the best games/co-op games of all time.
