Yes you still need tubehax. You can use the eshop by running NNU. For updates you need to use NUSgrabber and then wupinstaller to install it. If your system was 5.4, then you need to use the wupinstaller I posted.

You'll get the title ID for it and use the with NUSgrabber and it will download. Look up NUSgrabber tutorial.

I seriously cannot find a single tutorial for it. Google is giving me nothing. All I'm finding are WUP tutorials that just say "Use NUSGrabber"

NUSGrabber just isn't working. The GUI version doesn't have Smash on the list and the command line version just closes immediately if I click the exe, using a command line to do "nusgrabber.exe 00050000-10144F00" just says "NUSgrabber 0.3 by crediar" and does nothing.
I have VCC Redist 2015 installed.

Take out the dash and it should work with the command line version.

I've heard of the E thing but I've never seen anybody ever mention that you can't have a dash. They all just say "Use the title database"

You will need to load the kernel exploit before you load certain other payloads, such as Loadiine, Cafiine, WUP Installer, etc. Basically if something doesn't work the first time then you will need to load the kexploit first. Simpler homebrews like pong won't need the kexploit.

To run my backups, once I get into LoadLine, do I just need to have an SD card inserted with the WUD or compressed WUD files on there in the root? And LoadLine will just see them?

If only it were that easy. You'll need to look carefully at a section in the "Definitive Guide" sticky call "Decryption." It will explain you how to get your files into a form usable on your Wii U (it will require a 3rd party program and keys for both the system itself and one specific for the game you're decrypting). The other section you'll need to look at is the "Loadiine" section, specifically the portion on how to set up your sd card folder structure (Loadiine v2.0 to Current version).
