The Moon Books Project

Ever fancy some classic literature on the go? The Moon Books Project now provides over 400 books and 140 movies specially formatted for your DS viewing pleasure. All the books and films are in the public domain so they're legal to download

Moon Books Project said:
the goal is to release classic literature onto the Nintendo DS. With the popularity of brain enhancing software such as Big Brain Academy and Brain Age, it's about time someone released something to not only enhance the mind, but to expand the users knowledge based.

It's certainly a welcome addition to the little handheld. So if you're looking for some viewing material on the go be sure to check the project out. Thanks to GBAtemp member bobslack for the heads up!

Last time I went there, there was the excellent Night of the Living Dead and a few others now theres loads of films such as the great The Man Who Knew Too Much, Bad Taste & The Day The Earth Stood Still, all of which are total classics to me.

Might not be to everyones tastes and theres a lot of pre 70's stuff and b-movies but I reckon its pretty damn good and the team are doing an amazing job.

Not really fussed about the books as I don't really like reading on my DS, I prefer the feel of a book for some reason.

Yup, they are:

Looks like this project is simply converting Project Gutenberg ebooks and the Archive.org Public Domain films into moonshell-compatible files. The Project Gutenberg stuff is mostly in plain text files already, so feel free to use those if you want your ebook selection to be more in the "tens of thousands"!
