Hi all, long time reader 1st time poster!

I have WII running 3.2E. It is hard modded with Wiikey V2 and I have done a bit of softmodding. (Chip and softmodding done myself) I have HB Channel, Preloader, custom WADS, IOS's etc.

I don't really use anything on the system other than backing up disks via wifi (forget app name). All the current mods and hacks are really starting to get a bit much for me and I am beginning to think that I should upgrade to 4.0 as I always boot off the disks I create from originals.

This is where i need advice.

If I upgrade via Nintendo update will if format the system and just install 4.0, taking away HB channel? if it keeps the HB channel can I still use the wifi backup prog?

Or is it worth doing the hacked update so I can downgrade.

I know its prob best to have options open but keeping on top of all the HB wii stuff is quite hard as its constantlay changing, I think i just really want to play all latest games without needing to install custom IOS etc, but retain the HB channel so I can backup games.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Gav

as long as u have ciosrev7 of higher installed and the hbc installed updating is Safe. however DO NOT TRY copying the hbc to the sd card. just don't delete the hbc and all your homebrew should work fine.

^^What he said. Although, if you really wanna go to 4.0, you should not update officially through Nintendo. Use Waninkoko's Firmware Updater 4.0 to install only the necessary things.

Or better yet, have a look at the ULTIMATE System Menu 4.0 Guide by assassda. If you follow that guide correctly, you'll even be able to still copy your channels to the SD and back.
