Oh dear..right...
If Nintendo kept the name as Nintendo WIFI connection, does that mean they were stuck using the dsi/wii limitations?
NO.
No it does not.

They said they have improved online functionality of the 3DS. It is built into the system to be future proof. (iwata asks)
Sooooooo
they are able to offer a lot more online features. a lot more (demos videos larger game sizes etc etc etc)
Sooooooo
Nintendo thought it would be wise to change the name to reflect the 3DS's ability to do more than the ds/dsi/Wii and for customers to be able to see it's not the same ald shiz.

The "communities" in MK7 are part of the Nintendo Network, but maybe that particular feature was the only thing available at the time. This maintenance may add some more.
HA! I wish XD. Then that would be proof that 3DS games are updatable. (well, not counting DLC)

I meant in terms of the Nintendo Network, not about MK7.

Still, I think 3DS games can be updated. IMO, the 3DS just needs a firmware update so that the 3DS examines the SD slot prior to any loading of a boxed game's binary to see if an updated binary is found there, load that up instead, and use any additional data from there alongside the data found on the actual game card.

The article claims "digital boxed games" I wouldn't be surprised if these turn out to be NDS games and not 3DS games. Expect the worst and you won't be as Disappointed by Distendo

Doubtful it would be NDS games, since when in DS-mode, NDS games don't have access to the SD slot. One reason why even DSi games on the 3DS are stored on internal memory and not on an SD card.

Guys mariokart has the Nintendo Network already. Get up to date and stop whining.
Mario Kart says "connecting to nintendo network" in some copies.
It doesn't have the logo on the box like KI does
Perhaps, but it was the first game to use it. Nintendo didn't announce at the time. That's why it did not show in the box.
Nothing like that was ever said regarding for Mario Kart 7.

Although it may connect to the N+. Nintendo never mentioned it.

How dumb is this really?
The Nintendo Network IS THE NINTENDO WIFI CONNECTION!
it is the same damn thing guys!
different in name only.
Are you too uneducated to think they designed a 'new' type of online or something?
Nintendo Network is on MarioKart. Deal with it.
>Refuting unproved speculation with unproved speculation
>Saying education has anything to do with new online systems
>Deal with it
It's like I'm on a retarded version of /v/

Nintendo's already announced new features for their Nintendo Network, including full downloadable titles, DLC, communities, and a Wii U account system. Now I'd like to see your source that says they will not directly impliment anything new on the 3DS. I assume you mean to say that they will just impliment these features in the eShop and in the games, with no actual Nintendo network service. But do you have any more evidence than me?

What???? Dude, I think he meant to say that Nintendo Network is included with Mario kart 7 (Communities opt being a proof) But he never said that they won't implement it for other uses. Nintendo Network allows online play for games that are compatible with it. They decided to name it that way because it won't be the only thing that will be used for.

I think the correct assumption is that a piece of what the Nintendo Network will have was included in the online functionalities of MK7, but i sincerely doubt the entirety was included, like some of you are saying. remember that it all depends on the ones developing the software what online features would be supported by their games. if DS devs wanted online lobbies and voice chat, it will be there. if they wanted Community features, they'd figure something out, AND THEN it will be there. and that's for the DS.

the 3DS can obviously do so much more, and so the most intelligent, logical assumption is that the Nintendo Network will include so much more than what the online features of MK7 have.

I am gonna say that probably it's a maintenance to get the eShop ready for the next update which will come with Kid Icarus:Uprising that would unlock the Nintendo Network. That's my guess and probably everyone else guess XD
