So, a friend is gifting me with a brand new 3DS XL. I previously had a working o3DS, with a working emunand and stuff, so I backed all of that up onto it's SD. (The 3DS' SD port is no good anymore and cant be replaced cause of badly stripped screws that came with it)

My question is if I can transfer those saves over to my new 3DS? (please keep in mind that I literally mean new)
I believe you must update your system to the latest firmware before doing anything on it.
If not, I guess I'll just have to wait for Rxtools to hit 10.6.

Another thing I'm worried about is bricking, if I try tinkering with stuff. It is a gift after all, and I don't want to mess it up.

There are various ways we might be able to transfer your save files. For now, I recommend you downgrade to 9.2 using SafeSysUpdater in the likely event your 3DS is between versions 9.3-10.3.

But even if the firmwares are low like that, wont the setup require a system update?
There's no reason to run a system update. After you've downgraded and setup rxTools, you will be able to update your emuNAND to 10.6.

Edit: With regard to your save files, what format are they in? Are they backed up? Can you access your old 3DS?

Oooh, alright, sorry. I thought that updating was part of the first time setup. Thanks, I'll try it out.
What would I do in the slim chance of getting bricked? The button combinations for recovery mode?

In the case of a soft brick, yes, you would enter recovery mode.

rxtools does 10.6 as it uses the same stuff as 10.5, but there are other cfw you can use anyways so u dont have to use rxtools. cakes and the reinand mod have the super stable 3d bug fixed

Which would you say is easiest to install? Rxtools was installed with pure luck, cause I'm terrible with directions.
And also, I'm glad to hear about the 3D fix. ^^

neither of them need to run a set up thing like rxtools does, cakes will load a menu the first that and u just have to select what u want it to do and then boot it. the 3ds fix is only for the new 3ds(cant tell if ur getting a new 3ds or a new old 3ds). for the reinand mod you just copy the stuff over and launch it
