I haven't had a DS for quite a long time so I was wondering what does the updates for the 3DS do and what happens if there is a 3ds update and the flash cart requires an update too? I have to use a older DS to update the cart?

If your flashcart isn't compatible with the latest 3DS firmware update, you'll have to update the flashcart on a DS that supports the card, such as a DS Phat or Lite. However, if your card is compatible with the 3DS firmware, you ALWAYS want to update your card's firmware before you update the 3DS.

Can I update the card on the 3ds if it is compatible?

I bought Super Mario 3DS, but when I want to start it, it says I need to do a system update inorder to play it. I also want to play homebrews, so I'm not sure if I should update my system. Will the Super Mario updates prevent me from playing homebrews?

That is not entirely true. The DSTwo (and ONLY the DSTwo) can be updated even if it has been blocked by a 3DS update. As long as you can get it to the "an error has occured" screen you can update it.

On the site you linked to states that all their flashcarts are sent pre-updated, so I think you're good to go.

News:
"3DS firmware has been updated to V3.0.0-6, r4i gold 3DS card is working great on it, you dont need to use another DS console to do the update, the flashcard we send out are all pre-flashed and can support the latest DSi and 3DS firmware directly. After you receive it, just use the latest wood firmware and work on your DS/DSi/3DS any firmware."

Is safe to get a flashcart for my 3DS? I'm afraid of having a possibility to get my console banned, idk... Thanks in advice.
