what do you mean by a defective system?
Bad luck, it happens all the time with new tech.

guess so. I'm taking it to the shop now. I'll say what comes out of it later
Good luck sir, make sure to keep your SD card when you send it in.

They said i have to go back at a later date do i can speak to the manager...
They said it is something they've never seen and that they don't think the warranty covers it. Plus one guy asked if i use a flashcard on it... I said no...

it's really no since you didn't boot the r4 since it doesn't get detected(non dsi/3ds compatible)

good hopefully the manager takes it in for the warranty or I'm gonna flippin blow the shop up. Plus I'm gonna stab every damn nintendo official with the 3ds if they dont fix mine

Don't blow a gasket dude xD. They will repair it. Its a software issue not hardware so unless you were putting magnets on it (even though the damn console has magnets IN IT) they will repair it unless there is visible damage to the console.

Beware. As said before mention that Sale of Goods Act and you should be on your way with a new 3DS. If they don't repair it screw the manager and call the game store's regional number and keep on going up from there until you get a new 3DS.

Nintendy will however most likely fix it for free if you explain to them what happened... (for the love of god please as soon as they connect you to a rep ask for the manager)

yes, r4...

i am just curious, has anyone had a black screen of death without using a flashcart in their system? i really do think something behind the scenes is going on, just a suggestion.

edit: some users are saying that turning off the wifi switch after getting that error solves that problem, i am not sure if it will work for you, i am still suspicious that nintendo is detecting something remotely from their servers and shutting down 3ds's sony do it with their ps3, they can even tell what brand of tv you are using so it is possible and i would suggest anyone having a 3ds to turn the wifi switch off if you can.

that's not really true, when i first got my 3ds i put my acekard in. and it did save acekard icon in the software book. so they might be able to see that.

wow, completely bricked, i would be suspicious if that was me, but at least you have the warranty and this doesn't seem to be your fault at all you shouldn't have no problem getting a replacement from nintendo, i wouldn't bother going into game though they wouldn't even bat a eyelid and tell you to go back to nintendo unless you tell them about the sales of good act but good luck trying to enforce it.

Mine did this last week.
What I did was open System Settings and as it was opening, I managed to flick the Wireless switch and turn it off.
The 3DS stopped going to the Black Screen when the wireless was turned off.
Don't turn the wireless back on for atleast a few days otherwise it'll go back to the Black Screen but after a few days, it should be fine again.
