Hacking 3DS region hack?

But there is a good reason, probably 0.1% of people in Europe can read japanese, there is no incentive for Nintendo to implement it into EU firmware

except for the fact that the fewer differences there are between the firmwares, the easier it is to maintain the various branches.

yes but then you would be able to import games from japan and god forbid you ever do that, nintendo wants you to wait for the game assuming it comes out in your region

language support and region locks aren't the same thing. you can have a region identifier in the executable, and then a piece of code that checks that id in the firmware (with the firmware part of the code being identical in all regions) and that would stop any out of region games from playing
 
I've recently bought the Fire Emblem edition of the 3DS. I'm really gutted to learn that it's got a region lock on it. There are some games I'm a huge fan of, that are out exclusively in Japan that will never, ever be out in the UK let alone the rest of the western world. Super Robot Taisen series. That will never come out localised because it is actually a legal nightmare outside of Japan. :cry: I will have to import a Japanese 3DS if I want to play Super Robot Taisen.

I know this feeling , I like a game from japan too and I think I will never see this game in US....
