My new 3DS with firmware 9.9.0-26U complains about not being able to run the browser without a system update. I just opened it, never updated through a game or otherwise. Does that mean the browserhax exploit is out? I'd try the homemenuhax but I don't see any binaries, and I'm not sure how to compile it. Is getting Zelda the easiest way now? Thanks
Menuhax needs another exploit to be able to be installed. You can use OoThax, or you could try this workaround for Browserhax. That way you can confirm for us whether the workaround works for N3DSes fresh out of the box or not. Pretty much as soon as you boot the N3DS, go to the browser straight away. If that doesn't work, apply one of the DNSes listed in the workaround thread, reboot and start the browser right away.

It is possible to inject FBI installer on sysNAND 4.x?
Yes, it is possible.

Going through a couple of the guides to downgrade a n3ds and then install cfw, but how do you back up game saves and restore them? None seemed to mention it.

Backup all of the files on your SD card and restore the backups of the files when you're done. Saves are stored somewhere in the Nintendo 3DS folder.

okay, so that worked. I powered off the 3ds, powered it back on, launched the browser as fast as I could and clicked on a shortcut I made to browserhax_fright. It didn't work the first time, but worked the second. I didn't change my DNS settings. Now I have to figure out what to do next. I think I want to downgrade to 9.2 and then find a more reliable way of getting into homebrew. And then installing RxTools.

Thanks for the help.

You could set up ReiNAND, update to the latest emuNAND and play it on emuNAND. That way you won't have to update your N3DS and lose access to CFW. If you update your sysNAND, you'll need a hardmod to downgrade your N3DS and use CFW again.

If I update my EMUNAND fro 9.2.0-20 to 10.5.0-30, will this block pre-existing tools installed via CIA files like the homebrew launcher?

What does updating EMUNAND to 10.5.0-30 actually block that a 9.2.0-20 EMUNAND can do?

Are there any steps I should take before updating my EMUNAND to 10.5.0-30 and is there any specific method I should update it with? I know backing it up again is very important.

If I make a backup of the EMUNAND before I update it and I want to install unsigned cia files, would downgrading via cloning the backed-up EMUNAND.bin with Emunand9 work?

The reason why I'm asking is I want to go ahead and update my EMUNAND (CakesCFW) for internet and ease-of-life purposes. I already know that I can spoof everything, but I went down that route and honestly I'd just rather re-downgrade if I feel the need to grab unsigned CIAs.

... Oh, and can CakesCFW run 10.5.0-30?

No, nothing will be blocked by updating your emuNAND to 10.5.

There are no advantages of having emuNAND 9.2 over 10.5, there are actually disadvantages if you're using an N3DS.

Back up your emuNAND with EmuNAND Tool before updating. To update emuNAND use the system settings.

There's no reason to downgrade your emuNAND once you've updated it. You can install cias perfectly fine with a 10.5 emuNAND.

CakesFW can run 10.5 emuNAND. If you're using an N3DS, you'll need one of the newer versions of Cakes that supports 9.6+ emuNAND for the N3DS.

The same way you link it on emuNAND. Go to system settings on sysNAND and choose the option to link your NNID. It will ask you to connect to the internet, but it will not ask you to update.

Mmnope, it asks for an update after I input my password.

Oh dear. After updating Emunand I tried to go to the NNID settings, and it seems like the system took that as an opportunity to re-load into SYSNAND behind the scenes.

... Since the NNID was still saying I wasn't updated and was asking me to update, I figured the update was wonky.

I just killed my hopes and dreams. All of them. My SYSNAND is now completely updated.

*sobs*

Okay, so I spent the majority of my night doing a buncha stuff and now I am not sure if I completely messed up or what.

I have a n3DSXL. It was on 10.3, but I successfully downgraded it to 9.2. I prepared my emuNAND and still have my backup 9.2 sysNAND.
I successfully got ReiNAND to work and it was on 9.2. I wanted to upgrade it to 10.5 and setup my NNID, so I made sure that I was on ReiNAND 9.2 and when I was, I upgraded to 10.5 via System Settings.

Now I probably should have double checked this part too, but I may have gotten a little hasty here. After upgrading to 10.5, I checked the System Settings and Rei was not before the version number 10.5 (not sure if it was supposed to be there). I wanted to be able to coldboot into emuNAND because I was already tired of going through the exploit steps in 9.2 after setting everything up over the past few hours. I followed the coldboot guide here https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/3ztqqv/all_you_need_to_know_by_popular_demand/ and renamed my boot.3dsx to boot_hb.3dsx and copied over the new boot.3dsx and boot.cfg from CtrBootManager. Following the steps, I did everything correctly as far as I could tell, and set an escape configuration up. However, after rebooting I did not boot into my sysNand and instead would get the HomeMenuHax (purple menu) which would then boot into a black screen up top and a red screen on bottom. Using my escape config, I would boot directly into 10.5.

So then I removed those files I added, renamed boot_hb.3dsx back to the original name and tried again. No escape config would boot me into homebrew launcher, with the escape config I would go into 10.5.

Did I accidentally upgrade my sysNAND from 9.2 to 10.5? I am 100% positive that I was in ReiNAND 9.2 before upgrading to 10.5 in system settings but I cannot get back into 9.2 unless there is something else going on. I even removed my SD card and booted up the 3ds and was sent directly into 10.5. Did I mess up or is there something I can do to revert these changes? I had NTRBoot and FBI installed on my 9.2 emuNAND and they were gone after I updated if that is another sign that I messed up somehow.

Seems like your N3DS is now in sysNand 10.5.
You currently can't hack or downgrade your system anymore until a new eploit is found.
(there is currently a way to downgrade past 10.3 with 'hardmod', but i don't think you can't do that at home)

Did you unlink your Nand before performing an upgrade ?

I'm going to upgrade my "NINTENDO 3DS XL" to the "NEW NINTENDO 3DS XL" and I was hoping to use my flashcard is there anything I should know/do before I do upgrade my system? please and thank you.

when you say flashcard, it's NDS flashcard, gateway or sky3DS ?

If it's gateway :
- 1 : do not buy a N3DS that has firmware past 10.3
- 2 : do not update the N3DS past 10.3

If you want to perform a system transfert, you'll need to have both 3DS at the latest firmware.
So basically, the emunand of the previous 3DS must to be on 10.5, but you can't update the new 3DS to 10.5 or you won't be able to use CFW or gateway.

The only solution seems to perform a system transfert from emunand to emunand. There might be a thread about this.

Gateway and Thanks by the way do you know the best place to buy a "NEW NINTENDO 3DS XL" that has a firmware below 10.3?
