It will ask you to update. You can say no, but then you won't get into the eshop. You can't download the update until Gateway fixes emunand, but you could download the mk7 v1.1 rom so you don't need it.

You should check on http://3ds.essh.co/
Everyhing is sorted, so you want have problems to search for FW version of dumps.
yeah, except that not all games that require 7.x actually use 7.x encryption,but off the top of my head iirc
Nintendo Pocket Football Club
Azure Striker: Gunvolt

and probably a few others also use 7.x encryption

Just wondering once Gateway get 9.0 up and running on emunand will we be able to take advantage of the new themes, I mean would groups like BBB be able to release them or are they used in a different way than roms, I'm guessing they use the .cia or devmenu people mention that I don't quite understand. Also why no Mario Kart 7 DLC Ninty?? shame on them!

I have my gateway on omega 2.1 and want to update to 2,3b. Do I need to redo all the emu rom stuff or can I just replace the launcher and redo the blue card? After that i plan to do this http://www.dsflashcart.com/blog/use-gateway-3ds-card-emunand-3ds-firmware-v8-1-0-super-smash-bros/. Is this the correct way for me to go?

You dont need to use the blue card, just swap the launchers. I didn't click on that link but for smash to work you need emunand 8.1 (you can update to 8.1 instead of 9 through the smash rom). You won't be able to go online as theres an update you need off the eshop which you can't access until gateway get 9.0 working. You also need atleast a 4gb SD card (the one in the 3DS itself). That's about it.

Edit: I decided to not be lazy and click the link, apart from the bad English it's all correct yes. Make sure you have the Wi-Fi switch turned off when updating through a rom or it may update you to 9.0

Is it yet possible to apply/use mods for games? For instance character textures for the new Smash Bros.

Yes and no. It is possible on a lot of games, but the method for repackaging roms is unknown to common users.

Smash Brothers is an example of a game that uses a new encryption method, making it impossible for people here to do anything with it.

Is exFAT the best format for SD and microSD cards? I just got new cards, so I formatted them this way.
Does it affect speed in any way?

    @Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

    At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @SylverReZ,
    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.

I even explained to him about file sizes multiple times...
