I'm sorry to rain on your Parades, but There definately won't be any Joysticks.
It's gonna havta close properly, and two big things sticking out in the middle won't help.
those joystick thingies don't have to stick out much.
the gamecube portable in the post above yours has some that can work, especially if you let it sink a little below the main surface.
and the PSP's thumbthingy also works(and could easily be lowered a little below the surface)

If there was a bit of a recess for the area where the screen is, then even if the stick(s) was/were larger than the PSP analog nub then they'd have extra space to sit.

God damn this is sexy. But it would never work in real life because there's no damn room for a battery.

How? That kind of tech doesn't exist yet...not really, anyway. Besides, you people do see the Slot-2 down there, right? I'd be willing to bet thats a DSlite.

a design i'd find interesting(made it with colors!DS)

image 1: casual mode.
for full touch games, and media playback.
what you can't see is the camera on the back, didn't bother drawing that.
imaging it's pretty much on the backside on the same spot as CAM1

image 2: action mode.
for 3D racing, fighting, and other action games played best on a nice big high-res screen.
this mode reveals the ABXY, start, select, and D-pad buttons as well as an analog stick(2nd one could be added on the opposite side near ABXY)

image 3: dual mode.
this mode is required for DS games, and offers 2 sections on 1 screen with a skin-able border in between(3DS games could come with their own border)
this mode hides the analog stick, but offers easier access to the touchscreen.

this design uses 1 gamecard slot compatible with DS and 3DS gamecards, as well as 1 SDHC memorycard slot for cards of up to 32GB.
i decided to place the 3.5mm audio port between the shoulder buttons, next to the gamecard slot, because i hate how on the DS/PSP the 3.5mm plug is always where i want my hand.
the volume buttons are on the screen section, so they don't get in the way or accidentally pressed while mashing some buttons.
4 speakers, 1 in each corner of the screen section. this is to simulate some basic surround sound and to overcome the problem of loss of stereo effect when rotating the screen.
power button is a slider like the DSlite has.
the built-in microphone is centered below the screen(in the widescreen modes)

that looks cool actualy

wheres the camera?
and if thats true they should allow it to flip in the opisite direction like the Iphone

I don't think swivel would be very sturdy- I would prefer a sliding one where the screen would slide up then click into place, revealing the bottom screen and also the possibility of GBA emulation on the screen there that hasn't been slid into place. Both touch.`

well if they buffed up the swivel they can also have it click into place

and then if we really wanted we can slid it up to

Pretty cool design... innovative, too! I really like how you could use it closed for non-button games. People at my school tend to use iPhones or PDAs rather than handheld games, so when it's closed it'd be more discrete.

EDIT: Hey do you want me to do your design in photoshop? I'm bored and want to draw stuff xD
