I followed this 3DS mod guide: https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup

On the page above there is a step that says this:

Update your device by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”
  • Updates while using B9S + Luma (what you have) are safe

The thing is this will update me to 11.6 since the update is coming directly from Nintendo. I've seen many people say to avoid this firmware such as this reddit post which references the guide but says to stay on 11.3: https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/699w4t/guide_the_complete_noobs_guite_to_3ds_hacking/

The guide says I'll be fine since I already have B9S & Luma by that step, but is this guide up-to-date? I thought this would be more like PS3 / Vita modding where we flash a specific archived version of the official firmware, not update directly from Nintendo.

Is it fine to update to 11.6 then? Anything I'll lose by doing so having already followed the previous steps with the Sounshax exploit?

It's depends if you want to do it for free.

11.3 or 11.4 i think is the sweet spot if want to do it for free with soundhax

11.6 has either ntrboothax which requires a nds flash card or a seed miner compatible game.

You didn't miss this line, yet you're still asking...?

Reddit isn't exactly a good source of truth.

No I didn't miss this line but I know once you update that's it with most mods, rolling back usually becomes a huge PITA. I didn't see any "Guide last updated on" date so I wanted to make sure I wasn't following some outdated guide that was detailing steps back when the latest firmware was 11.3. Anyways, I just wanted to double check before I messed up so thank you all for the responses!
