So I have this 3DS XL with firmware 4.5.0-10E that I would like buy a flash card for, and I found the Orange 3DS at a well-knowned retailer, but I´m really not sure what to expect. First of all it seems the official website has ceased to exist, which isn´t the most promising start. As far as I know the company behind the Orange flash card is also behind R4i gold 3DS and 3DS links (r4ids), but only the r4ids.cn website seems to work at the time. Are the other two defunct?
Is the R4i gold 3DS firmware interchangeable with the Orange/3DS Links firmware?

Next I´m not sure what limits the Orange 3DS impose compared to for instance the Gateway card. It seems that the Gateway card supports newer firmware, but as my XL is still on 4.5.0-10E I guess that´s not really an issue here. But what about the emunand, will the Orange 3DS be able to play every recent games with the current firmware?
In the GBATEMP wiki it says: "User can't create new NAND dump because of disabled Flashcart's menu, but can use existing dump created using another flashcart's Launcher.dat version".
What is the consequence implied here?

Finally would I just be better off by spending the double amount of money on the Gateway card?

Orange is a dead Gateway clone.

For 4.5 you really only have two choices.

Gateway
CFW

Only major difference between Gateway and the CFW now is gateway can play.3ds, cfw you have to install roms as .cia and they'll show up on your home menu.

There is a guide for seting up rxtools (cfw) here

https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/

At this point, you are probably best going cfw on an original 3ds, unless you really can't deal with the long install times for .cia.

He asked what flash card to pick though not which cfw to pick, so as far as that goes since he is on 4.5 and sounds like he doesn't mind spending actual money then gateway 3ds.

CFW is superior, why not notify him of the better option? Get a Gateway if you dont mind spending a little time installing and learning it. But if you want quick and plug-and-play, then Sky3DS is your card to get.

yes , i think it is a good choice , but if sky3ds , why not the sky3ds+ , it is more powerful than sky3ds blue button .right ..
Yes I meant to say SKY3DS+, it just released and its updateable, unlike the blue button.

Its worth the time to install cfw, at first it was very difficult for me to install but once you understand nothing gonna stop you. Otherwise go for gateway if you have money.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
