[re bank]I had to phone them up (at 4am no less) and answer a bunch of questions like "Have you ever lived with anyone with this name", "What's the age range of this person you know", "Have you ever lived in one of these areas", and then do the payment again.

You think that's bad. I once had to answer the date I opened my bank account! Of course I had no clue so couldn't proceed. Had to phone them back and try again with a different set of questions.

LOLwtf. What kind of bank would ask such a ridiculous question like that? Imho, answering that correctly should arouse suspicions if anything. O___o

Has a raffle of some kinda been considered for this project? Just a $1 entry or something would quickly make $2k on a site like this, especially if it was front-paged.

Yeah, they could definitely raffle something off. Something related to the 3DS exploit, or just some token thing.

About the frontpage thing though, if GBAtemp were to do that it would be officially endorsing the decapping effort. I don't think they SHOULD have anything to worry about but it connects them to 3Dbrew that way. You know legal liability possibly.

I'm sure a 3DS or WiiU as a prize would work extremely well, only thing is it's quite expensive and I doubt someone is willing to donate one. Unless they would be allowed to claim what they spent on the console from the entry dontations and the remaining was put to the fund?

That's a very good idea, a raffle with a paypal option would make $2k pretty quickly

However much they end up making in a raffle could go into paying for a donor 3DS system, or one just for the raffle. I dunno.

But the raffle would have to operate on the assumption that they may only raise a few hundred, so honestly the prize shouldn't be amazing, especially for $1 entry.
They should probably assume the raffle may not have the most participants so the minimum should maybe be $3-5 entry?
Also, moneybookers is probably not the best way to handle raffle entries. Sorting out bank-transfers for a somewhat minimal sum? Will people bother?

That's a good point. :\

Still, the actual decapping effort is entirely legal.
You know, if they only rely on the exploits they have now, then is may just turn out to be like the dsi due to the fact this would be patched when released, and 3DS might be shipped with this firmware... Even if the team finds a way to keep people from getting patched with the system already being hacked, everyone without the hack already on newer versions may never get to install this exploit.

Like I said before, I see it to be very likely if there is one to be found a better/ deeper exploit. This needs to. E considered on why the decamping probably needs to happen.

Every exploit will be fixed sooner or later because it's unlikely that we'll find a very deep exploit. There will be usually persons who havn't got the exploit before they updated their system.

And is exactly why this exploit SHOULD NOT BE RELEASED, at least until near certainty that nothing can be done. I for one am not updating my system right now due to this, and the possibility that Ninty's will fix this, whether it be from their own search and/or from people giving them hints from forums like this copy and pasting IRC logs without snipping some info that some less knowledgable can spread around and make things easier for Nintendo to patch it. To whoever is trying to figure out what the game is, that is vulnerable, should keep that matter private.

I hope that they'll release the exploit soon because then other persons can help them with mapping the 3DS. Even the actual NDS lib uses other libs in addition.

Theres a problem in the fact that sooner may not be better, especially since mapping the 3DS is not the hard part (I think its in quite capable hands, and thats also what this fundraiser is for). They need money as of right now, not exactly man power. Endangering this exploit more than it needs to would not be ideal.

Or the Exploit if one comes from it can be named after your username or a name you give when you donate? Eh eh like: The Kingcolex exploit: Made by Neimoid

it's so hard to donate via skrill
it wouldn't let me upload any money to it, and I couldn't finger out why and how to fix it:(

I think it is easier if you first create the Moneybookers.com account, and then add funds to it via credit card, rather than bank transfer.
Basically you can add funds to your Moneybookers account, and then give those funds to the decapping fundraiser by specifying that amount.

That's what I've gathered at least, I went the bank transfer method and I'm still waiting for that to go through.

My funds finally reached my moneybookers.com account, change rates turned out to make my pounds sterling into $28.88, a little under the $30 I promised.
So I had to cancel that first pending transfer through my account and just send the $28.88.
Hopefully that'll have reached the fundraising effort now.

How do we know that this project is actually being run by the homebrew community; and not a way for Nintendo to con us all into doing their homebrew-exploit-finding-and-patching for them?
I donated, but still, the suspicion is there.

The same way you determine that everyone else on this forum is not a Ninty spy trying to weed out pirates etc. You don't. :P

Why would Nintendo need to decap their own hardware?

Nintendo don't need to decap the hardware... they already have the schematics!
