Anybody got any wiff of if or when the account will be ready for donations, I would like to donate :/ When we can donate again, I would suggest this be posted on the main page. Man, If donate-rs really get the decapping data like suggested earlier.... That would be cool!:D

Would also like to know, IF anything (as in homebrew or a cfw) is made possible because of this, will the results be made public? Basically I'm just asking since ppl are now actually putting money towards research for 3Dbrew, that if something comes of it, will the end result (hopefully homebrew channel or something to that effect) be released for all?
Please don't take this the wrong way. I just wouldn't want to fund something that won't (potentially) directly benefit us. I hope you get what I'm saying and don't take offence. And yes, please get the account issues resolved so we CAN donate. :)

It's all written in the 3dbrew fundraising page (you can use the link in my signature).
The most likely focus points will be:
 • the boot ROM, possibly containing flaws which allow us to take control of the system
 • secret keys, hidden in hardware, used in cryptographic operations
 • secret algorithms, implemented in hardware to obscure information
 • and possibly much more
My question was, will the resulting hacks if any, be released publicly?
Not "what are you trying to do?"
Meaning is what they're attempting going to benefit everyone in the end or will they never release the hack if one is found.
(Some hackers/homebrew devs do keep stuff to themselves you know.)

pretty sure they said information learned will be posted
but people that donate will actually get a copy of all the pictures that the process takes emailed to them

like when this happened the the SNES cart

Ok, so it's still impossible to donate... this is starting to smell fishy, cause this has been the case since Saturday.

What is going on?

Apparently, paypal froze his account for "acceptable use policy violation" so... yeah, just wait and see what happens now.

well I donated yesterday worked fine then, but now even I can't,I am guessing this is Nintendo's scheme to keep the 3ds safe.

If he gets another way to donate, I'll give some funds for sure. We need this to happen.

What part of this violates the acceptable use policy? Is fundraising not allowed on Paypal or something?

At this point I don't know any more than what I posted earlier, so I think we should all just sit tight and wait for gshock to let us know what's going on.
(and let's not start rumors that this is somehow nintendo's doing or whatever)

All those donations to an unverified account in a short lapse of time may have triggered an alarm at Paypal.

Paypal are known to block donation for whatever reason.

[tinfoil]Nintendo are certainly already aware of this[/tinfoil]

Eh i think ill wait and see how things turn out, if you apply some pressure.

Thanks pong. Id actually like to get a copy of the results if I'm ever able to donate. I was more referring to the release of any homebrew enabling hack or cfw, if the decapping leads to that, will the hack/cfw be useable by all or kept to themselves.
I know it won't definitely happen, but that's why I said if.
Just being able to check out the inner workings of that soc would be cool though.

I guess we can say this donation is a bet. The decapping process was sucessful with the snes chips, but the 3ds SoC is much more complex and it's not guaranteed that it will be a sucess. But this is a good bet, chip decapping is used for implemating emulators for example. Imagine what kind of information can be found there, I would bet it could reduce years of reverse engineering to some weeks.

You still don't understand what he was asking. It was not "will something come out of it?", it was "if something comes out of it, will it be publicly released?". I can't say for sure, but I would assume yes, seeing as they are asking for public donations and it's being advertised on 3dbrew. Obviously inside technical details may not be released straight away, but any useful results will (or should, at least) be.

There's no guarantee they would release results of any progress made towards hacking. They're just considering releasing the SEM images to donors, which I doubt most will know what to do with (which is why they're probably only considering it). I certainly doubt they'd release keys, if they found any.
