Huzzah, he's done what the GW team had shown us weeks ago!
While effectively it's the same (from what we know, anyway)... It's not the same thing technically. That's what Smealum said anyhow.
And the idea of a custom firmware with redNAND is much better than a flash card with emuNAND

You still use a DSi Flashcard, just like Gateway...

While he's saying it's not the same... he's doing the same exact thing that GW showed us in their videos.

He redirects the 3DS to use the NAND dump from the SD card instead of the internal chip. That's exactly what we saw.

He is not able to do that at the moment, he haven't done such a thing even in his show off. His custom firmware is what Gateway mode is essentially.
Okay, fair enough.
That still doesn't change that this is an amazing feat to do separately from GW, even if it has been performed before.

Would you guys consider Windows to be a custom OS when software that modifies certain aspects is installed?

no windows is an operating system , it is not a firmware if you want to make an analogy to a PC i would say that a BIOS is more akin to a firmware than the OS

Instead of arguing semantics, which is pointless as all hell, why not ditch the analogies and say what you want to say?
