This is amazing on so many levels! Well done, Smealum!

While effectively it's the same (from what we know, anyway)... It's not the same thing technically. That's what Smealum said anyhow.Huzzah, he's done what the GW team had shown us weeks ago!

And the idea of a custom firmware with redNAND is much better than a flash card with emuNAND

Once he has that custom firmware rolling, he won't need to.You still use a DSi Flashcard, just like Gateway...

Okay, fair enough. He is not able to do that at the moment, he haven't done such a thing even in his show off. His custom firmware is what Gateway mode is essentially.
Okay, fair enough.
That still doesn't change that this is an amazing feat to do separately from GW, even if it has been performed before.
Would you guys consider Windows to be a custom OS when software that modifies certain aspects is installed?
woohoo ... now let's find a way to downgrade our 5.1 and up firmware to 4.5 :S
no windows is an operating system , it is not a firmware if you want to make an analogy to a PC i would say that a BIOS is more akin to a firmware than the OS
take apart the 3ds and flash it?
The 3DS firmware includes an OS though.no windows is an operating system , it is not a firmware if you want to make an analogy to a PC i would say that a BIOS is more akin to a firmware than the OS
