Nintendo does check for very obvious signs of Pokemon hacking, this is proven in the Pokebank, in which Pokemon with highly suspect data are rejected outright
(Such as a Pokemon caught in a location that doesn't really have that Pokemon or a move that isn't supposed to be in that Pokemon.)
So its possible that there are checks that could merit banning a console due to that.

My only problem with that is that if there's a slip up in PokeBank or Wonder Trade and an unsuspecting person gains a hacked Pokemon, that could be no bueno. I'm guessing they use the same checks across games though.

Yeah. Common mistake with people trying to use MH4U online. Most dumps floating around are headerless. You have to inject your own header, otherwise it will give you that error.

Nintendo don't ban because of illegal Pokémon, that would be chaos. If I make an illegal Pokemon and it passes through checks, and I WT it, why should someone else potentially get banned too? That's what checks and Pokémon updates are for. Illegal stuff gets banned automatically (as in, it doesn't even pass checks).
