Hi,
Basically looking to buy a 3ds and not sure what the best option would be to play backups and was wondering if someone could advise.

I believe the 3ds will be on around 2.x and I also possess an acekard2i. I was looking at the gateway and sky3ds but also came across CIA files and cfw which I'm not really sure about. Can CFW play games/CIA which require above 4.5? Any help picking the best option would be appreciated.

Thanks

Would you say there's any drawbacks to using this method? Thanks for the suggestion
Personally I have had a gateway since January so I still use it, but I would go for free cfw otherwise. I'd say the only drawback is that there is no .3ds rom loading (only CIA), but that's not really a problem if you get a 32gb or more sd card. Also some people have problems loading the newest smash dlc, while gateway has no problem.

Edit: if the 3ds you are getting is below 4.x, you can simply use a game cart to update to 4.x, then you can start the tutorial.

Use http://3ds.essh.co/ to see what games come with 4.5 firmware (type 4.5 in the search box). Make sure the region matches your console (EUR I assume?)

Ok that sounds good then. Will try to look at it properly later as I'm still struggling with all the NAND stuff. Thanks for you help

Also could I ask if its easy enough to get off CFW and back to normal state for future? And can you install CIA from different regions?

It is easy, maybe a bit time consuming. You can either:

1. Do a system format, which resets the data on your 3DS.
2. Recover a nand backup (which you should make as soon as possible, before you mess with things like emunand or cia's). If you follow the tutorial, it should be your first step. This is the safest way, since you're basically resetting your 3DS to an almost completely unaltered state. Only your MSET will be hacked, but you can easily remove it by running your acecard on your 3ds once

All sounds good and think I will go with this option then. Thanks again
