Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance - Ew.
wat?

Kingdom Hearts is highly bleh to me.
Are there any popular games that you like? It seems to me that you dislike most of the games that garner any amount of hype, whether the hype is deserved or not.

As for what I personally want:

Fire Emblem 3D
Kingdom Hearts 3D
Professor Layton v. Ace Attorney
Tales of the Abyss 3D
Rayman Origins
Mario Tennis
Paper Mario?

I would get MGS3, but it's too slow and I already have the PS3 collection...

I just like good games. I don't think Kingdom Hearts is a good game. It's not because of its popularity or its rabid fanbase (well, a do dislike it a bit for its rabid fanbase), it's because of various issues I have with the story, gameplay, and presentation of the games. I enjoy games, regardless of popularity.

I ask because throughout the year or so of your Games of the Month threads (good job on those, by the way), I have noticed that many, many of the games that have any sort of hype you don't like, and anything that's in the shadows you're super-psyched about. Is this purely coincidental, am I crazy, or what?

In particular, I don't mind that you don't like Kingdom Hearts (although I cannot see how you don't like the gameplay), but the pattern I have been seeing with your opinions leaves me interested.

Your January 2012 edition does not fit my observations, but there are plenty that do...

SO MANY GOOD GAMES

MUST GET THEM ALL :D

ACE ATTORNEY VS. LAYTON, NINTENDO, YOU BETTER MAKE THIS HAPPEN IN NA

FUCK YEAH!

[/endcaps]

Boy does Heroes of Ruin look good. And I can't wait for Kid Icarus either.. But Fantasy Life looks like a better version of Animal Crossing to me.. Time Travelers looks interesting and a Layton game.. Then we have Good People Die, a 999 sequel..FUCK YEAH

..Except for KH..Disney + FF=, especially in 3D

Really can't wait for Kid Icarus, the trailers look beautiful.

Also excited for Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, KH, Layton, Ace Attorney VS. Layton, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and Theatrhythm.

Well we're going a bit off topic but I'll give you my general game philosophy before we derail the thread completely ;)

I'll take a look at the previous GotM (before January) which was in November (I didn't do a December issue because I already covered most of the games or could cover them in January, plus there wasn't too much stuff). Some "popular" games on the list:
  • Super Mario 3D Land: Basically I said it's probably good and fun but doesn't warrant the $40 price tag for me. I'm a real stickler on what games I buy when it comes to pricing, and I've found past Mario platformers to basically be beaten and then just sit there. I'd rather spend $30 on a game like Tetris Axis, which will last me forever, than $40 on a "candy bar game" (basically games that are great but have little substance to them).
  • Tales of the Abyss: "Popular" in some communities I guess (like GBAtemp). I've tried a number of Tales games in the past and none of them really excited me. Farthest I got in one was Tales of Innocence but I eventually dropped that.
  • Sonic Generations: Last Sonic game I tried was Sonic Colors which was alright but I never really enjoyed. I didn't feel it was worth $40, much like SM3DL
  • Uncharted 3: I don't have a PS3 so I wasn't interested.
  • Skyrim: I'd retract every bad word I said about it if I could. I got it for Christmas and I'm loving it. I'll eat my words on this and do so gladly.
  • MGS Collection: Well MGS is relatively "popular" and this was basically my third place for Game of the Year last year (beaten by Saint's Row 3 and Portal 2, mind you this was before I actually played any of these games outside of Portal 2). I now own it and would probably put it at 4, with Skyrim going right below Portal 2.
  • Modern Warfare 3: Direct quote from the issue: "I'm no big fan of CoD but I certainly don't hate it."
  • Saint's Row The Third: SR2 was relatively popular and this was too. Enjoyed it quite a bit but it didn't blow my expectations out of the water after playing it.
  • Skyward Sword: Basically said it'd probably be the best Zelda yet. In some ways it is, in other ways it's not. If anything it's both a step forward and a step backwards in the series, so basically it's a split.
Everything really depends on what you consider "popular" and what you don't. I just like games if they're good in my eyes.

Luigi's Mansion 2 - I've got the first one last summer but haven't played yet.BTW I'm not happy of the outsourcing, because I don't trust Next Level Games at all.
Animal Crossing - I'm not interested.
Heroes of Ruin - I'm not interested and I don't like n-space very much.
Kid Icarus Uprising - Seems to be a great game to me, but the I hate the MPH control scheme.Wii port = DO WANT.NOW.
Beyond the Labyrinth - I'm not interested.
Resident Evil Revelations - ^
Paper Mario - ^
Time Travelers - ^
Tales of the Abyss - ^
Mario Tennis - I like sports games, but only in local multiplayer.
MGS 3D Snake Eater - I'm not interested.
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle - I have to play the 4th first, but I'm interested.
Fantasy Life - I'm not interested.
Rhythm Thief - ^
Bravely Default - ^
Tekken 3D Prime Edition - I'm not sure.I have to play Tekken 6 PSP first, which I already own.
Rayman Origins - I want this game, but on Vita.Or, if I won't get Vita soon, on Wii.
Fire Emblem - I'm not interested.
Monster Hunter Tri G - ^
Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy - ^
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance - ^
Crush3D - I was really interested because I loved the PSP one, but then I saw a video comparison and noticed that has the same levels of the PSP one, but with much much worse art style.
Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney - I like both series, but I hate crossovers, just because 99% of them are sh%t.
Rune Factory 4 - I'm not interested.
Dragon Quest Heroes - ^
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games - ^ Mario Tennis. Maybe I will get the Wii version.
Dynasty Warriors VS. - I'm not interested.

Extreme Escape Adventures: Good People Die - I'm not interested.
Shifting World - 60 levels and they are charging Full price? LOLWUT? The Minis one has 120 levels and cost 5€.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3DS - I love Roller Coaster 1&2, not so much the third one, so I hope it's like the first two. And, again, I don't like n-space.

Luigi's Mansion 2 - I've got the first one last summer but haven't played yet.BTW I'm not happy of the outsourcing, because I don't trust Next Level Games at all.

They've done Super Mario Strikers/Mario Strikers Charged as well as the latest Punch Out!! games. Nintendo generally has a good track record with brand name franchises on non-Nintendo EAD teams (Metroid Prime, Donkey Kong Country, etc). The only bad one that really comes to mind is Metroid: Other M.

That "candy bar game" thing is stupid then and it stupid now.
I played Super Mario 3D Land and it has a lot of contents in it if you trying 100% complete it. How is that little substance?

I try to say something about Sonic, but I haven't played it, but I do know that you seem to have this unfairly anti-Sonic.

The game could legit have 200 hours() gameplay and you would still push it away since it a Sonic game.

After I think about it I seem you are basing games more on replay value then over anything else which doesn't seem fair, really or/and
didn't seem to like platform games much.

What platform games you like that you don't consider a "candy bar" game?

Maybe you didn't play some of the DS spin offs: Wario (Suzak) was "meh", Donkey Kong Jungle Climber(Paon Corp., who made also DK Jet Race for Wii that was shit too) was terrible, Yoshi's Island 2 was in the same situation of Luigi's Mansion 2, developed by a team(Artoon) that was good but not great, and in fact it didn't stands the original.

Compared to this games, Metroid Other M is a masterpiece...

Apart from the sport games, Nextlevel did mediocre licensed games, like Capt. America, Transformers Wii and Ghost Recon Wii.
