Just pop the one you are currently using, I guess the 8GB , let see if the 2ds detect it first.

It is just to see if the system would pick up the SD card, inside the 3ds tab there are tabs for software, extra data, DLC and save data backup, you can click on software see if the system pick up the SD card. It show certain amount of block.

No just put in the SD card you were using for the 2ds, in the 2ds, just to check if the system detect it.

If it detected it should show the SD card available space size in block format.

Well try format the 8GB again, using Minitool Partition Wizard, set it as FAT32, Primary Partition , and 32kb Cluster.
