I believe the reason you hear so much more about headaches and what not [sarcasm]is because the people who don't get headaches, eyesore etc from the 3DS don't complain that their head feels fine [/sarcasm] But seriously, the majority of stuff is negative because there's no incentive for the people who find it perfect to post their opinions...

Edit: So to answer the OP, no I definitely would not purchase a 2D model for a few reasons including the fact the 3D effect is good imo and I can leave it on all the time I play without eyestrain or a headache.

Personally the only reason I'd have to buy a 3DS at the moment is for essentially an upgraded DS (I know it's not an upgraded DS, if you respond saying so I will slap your face). If the 2D model had some type of improvement or was cheaper than a 3D model, I'd go for it.

3D is, despite what all the raging fanboys say, a purely aesthetic feature that doesn't make gameplay. Any game in 3D can be played in 2D, at least at the moment and at least with every 3DS game that's been (and being) advertised.
Personally the only reason I'd have to buy a PSV at the moment is for essentially an upgraded psp (I know it's not an upgraded psp, if you respond saying so I will slap your face). If the slightly weaker graphics model had some type of improvement or was cheaper than a overdoes graphics model, I'd go for it.

You didn't have to be a fanboy to believe the added depth add something to gaming.
Why buy a 2D only version, if you can see 3d and can turn down the slider with ease?

Again, partly jk, so didn't turn this into a VS thread.
/post before a complete derail.

I've got to thinking about the whole eye-strain and headaches people supposedly get with the 3D on. Is it because they can't handle the 3D, or is it because they can't keep themselves within the viewing angle? People who have to constantly be moving, either with their hands or head, will have a hard time keeping the 3DS steady to where they can correctly see the effect. You start looking at it from an improper perspective, and of course you'll get headaches.

Since Mega Man legends 3 was killed off, I am hoping for a good turn based RPG game that uses the "3D" effect. I think it'll look awesome.

I didn't preorder or buy a 3DS as I felt the price was to high atm.
After reading all the complaints of headaches, eye strain and fatigue it got me thinking, why don't Nintendo release a 2D model for like £150?
I would definitely buy one! The trade price of the parts that make up the 3DS are estimated to be around $70, so there would still be a good profit for Ninty in a 2D only model.

This way I still get to play the new games without a risk to my health.

Anyone else think this would be a good move for Nintendo?
Would you buy a 2D only model?

Look at all the complaints already from twitter:

http://www.maxconsole.net/content.php?4528...e-3DS-headaches

UPDATE: http://www.maxconsole.net/content.php?4531...plaints-roll-in

It's obviously a wide spread problem.

First of all, the 3d effect will only bother you if you used it all the time and on a too high setting, oh and also if your a moron and don't use a good setting for yourself and leave it on if you start feeling eye strain. I use it on basically the lowest setting and I turn it off after an hour of constant playing. Second of all, releasing a 2d model would be stupid and cost Nintendo a lot of extra money. They would have to produce two types of the same system when you can just turn off the 3d when your not in the mood. If Nintendo thought it would've been a good idea to release a 2d only model, don't you think they would have?

After all it's called the 3DS NOT the 2DS.

This must the most stupid post ever. Why don't they propose a 2d version of the 3ds????? Are you retarded? Afraid for your health: close one eye.

I use 3d on all the time, never had any discomfort. If I did I would adapt it or switch it off.

If nintendo was making a plane you would propose a model that doesn't fly for people who are afraid of heights?

OP's proposal is sooooooo moronic it gives me headache and eye strains.

Thanks for your ignorance and useless post. Unintelligence knows no bounds.

I partly agree with Thug on this one (holy crap March 2011 post man), as Nintendo could make a cheaper Nintendo 3DS Lite or something that excludes the 3D feature, while still playing 3DS titles. This way those who suffer from headaches or eye strain can save their money and get a cheaper model, and still enjoy the 3DS games.

Although now I think it's too late for them to do that, because they've already put so many eggs in the 3D basket that having a 2D version would be impossible. It's been '3D this!' and '3D that!' so much that it will be very hard for Nintendo to say 'Yeah..... we're gonna tone down on the focus of 3D.' -- Plus they also called it 3DS, so they've sealed their fate.

Personally, I would prefer a 2D only version. Even without the 3D effect on, the screen still gives me headaches. Apparently I'm not the only one.

OK so I am starting to get very angry about all these cruddy rumors about a non 3d model and a model with 2 analog sticks!!!!!!! I have had my 3ds for a little over a month and have never had a headache or eye strain from it. As a matter of fact a couple of my buddies have the worst eye sight ever (im talking one is almost legally blind and the other has no peripheral vision) and both of them were able to see the 3d effect and neither got headaches. Stop the whining people!!!!!!!!! If you have not given the system a good 24+ hours playtime in 3d then don't say a word until you thoroughly test the machine. And furthermore im convinced that 99% of these complaints and rumors are from psp fanboys. but to answer the OP no i don't think it will happen and no i would not buy one.

As a glasses wearer, I had serious concerns when I bought my 3DS back in march. The first time I played with the 3D on, I got a little wave of nausea about 5 minutes in and felt a little bit of an eyestrain headache coming on- exactly the same feeling I get when I get my prescription updated. The next day, the nausea was gone but the eyestrain remained albeit about 15 minutes in. Within a under a week I could play quite happily for up to an hour (that's about the maximum time I ever remain undisturbed long enough to play games).
All of these 'headache' complainers should be
A - Referred to the manual
B - Getting their eyes tested
C - Giving it enough time
D - Altering the brightness (default is much brighter than any DS model)
E - Re-adjusting the 3D in settings (when I first set it up I wasn't holding it in an optimal 'gaming' position)

If all of that fails, turn the 3D off

- Dunno where the ignorance and unintelligence part comes from.
- Dunno what makes your post useful... you don't bring anything new to the subject.

- Since the price of the handled went down, the core idea of having a cheaper version in 2D evaporates.

- You are not the only one: headaches are experienced by a lot of people and historian have revealed it has existed before the 3DS.

I can't see 3D so why I must pay more for 3D effect?
QUOTEIf nintendo was making a plane you would propose a model that doesn't fly for people who are afraid of heights?
Flying is "main option" of plane. 3D is not main option in console.

First off... reading comprehension my dear dulume...

He said that he has headaches with the 3d on, hence he prefers it with the 3d off. No mention of headaches with 3d off.

There is also no reason why nintendo can't lower the price further with a new no-3d model... Release it below the $150 mark and you've got yourself an attractive price point for the holiday season

"You can turn the 3d off!" arguement is stupid for why they shouldn't release a 3d-less version.. If ANYTHING it supports it more. Why? Because Nintendo has already said and proven that 3D isn't a necessity for any of their 3DS games and there is already a large segment that plays without turning 3D on, and there are lots of concerned parents that are too stupid to know they can permanently turn the 3D off themselves...

So offering a revised cheaper version with 3d removed to save money and then passed on to consumers who then drive their general hardware numbers up is a VERY good reason to do this. More hardware in the hands of consumers means greater support from third parties and generally more software sales.

If you haven't even managed to pass a high school economics class, I don't expect you to understand the underlying basics of this entire argument... Which is that it's never a bad thing to have a larger install base and if the way to do that is through more hardware options then that's the way to go.

EDIT: After reading some of these posts, are you all retarded? Just turn off the 3D. If your not intelligent enough to do that, then you shouldnt own a 3DS.

Maybe they didnt release a 2D only model because theres a GODDAMNED 3D SLIDER?

I'm assuming that Nintendo will price a 2D version lower or it'll have some other incentive coming with it. I know taking away the 3D screen doesn't reduce costs significantly but I think that the lack of a feature would lead to a more budget oriented price.

Also, saying that a less powerful Vita model would be equivalent to a 3D-less 3DS model is like comparing apples to oranges. 2D models of the 3DS would have the same graphical power minus 3D. If you made a less powerful Vita then it wouldn't be able to play everything effectively.

After reading your post, I've come to the conclusion that you didn't actually read ANY of the other posts and instead you've just made one impulsive conclusion...

I don't need to retype what I've already said, though I suggest you take a moment to actually read it this time.

(edit) Guild, they are releasing 2 versions of the Vita... a wifi only model, and a 3G cell line model. This would be analogous to a 3D-less 3DS and the 'premium' regular 3DS.

That's not the point here. It's not about the 3D slider or just turning off the 3D; people are asking to remove 3D and release it for a lower price. A lower pricing may bring more people buying the 2D-less 3DS.

I don't know how much it costs to implement the 3D, so I'm not sure how much lower it's going to make though.

do you guys not read?!?!?!?!?!

if they were to take the 3d away and make a model without 3d it would cost MORE should i say it again? IT WOULD COST MORE!!!!!!!!!! even though the screen is 10$ cheaper they have to redesign the thing, re market it, redo the factory to build it, and then take yet another loss on the 3ds because no one knows how to use their eyeballs propperly!!!!!!!! wow im so angry im leaving this topic before i say something mean

As repeated several times by others, including me, there is more to it than just "replacing" the top screen with a non-3D screen, both from a technical PoV, as well as a business PoV. They'd have to spend more resources (time, energy, money, etc.) just to bring out an "inferior" version of the original, which is just a stupid tactic altogether.

So you don't want to use the 3D feature, and feel cheated out for paying for the feature? Well, you're either paid for the 3D effect, or paid for greater battery life, so no, no one is getting cheated out here.

I've had my car for little over a year and never got into an accident. My mom and sister have been driving it as well and never had any accidents either. This proves that accidents don't exist!

God stop saying you and your friends don't have the problem so noone does. It's like saying "I know many smokers and none of them has cancer so smoking doesn't cause cancer"

Greater battery life? Are we talking about the same 3DS? The 3DS has awful battery life on its own, even with 3D turned off (even in DS mode the 3DS's battery doesn't last as long as the DS Lite's)
