Well, this was a pure disappointment. I don't care about PS3 and wanted to learn something new about Wii/DSi stuff.
The Wii's security system is blown wide open already. All they could do is:
i) Show new exploits (little point, if they did this, they couldn't explain how they worked or they'd be patched before they're even released, and the whole point of this conference thing is to discuss how the hacks work)
ii) Show new IOS exploits (same as above, and new IOS exploits wouldn't give anything new over old IOS exploits)
iii) Explain already patched exploits or IOS exploits (less exciting than new hacks for a different console)
As for DSi, they said they
may touch on its security
if they had time. They didn't have time to talk about much else than the PS3. And I'm gonna guess that they don't have much to reveal on the DSi, and so all they'd have been doing would be outlining the security, and
why don't have much to show off. (I am making this assumption because while there
is an exploit for DSi mode code execution, that's been out for a while and nothing too interesting has been done with it, except show the speed improvement of homebrew running in DSi mode over DS mode. If they
did have more done for the DSi, I reckon now would be when they would have shown it.)
And so, what they revealed for the PS3 was most interesting. As it turns out, the PS3's security system is a complete failure. But I gotta ask; if its such a failure, why has it taken so long for the PS3 to be hacked?
