Stream keeps dropping for me...I hope it gets on YouTube soon

EDIT: Slide view seems to be working a little better. I'll probably watch the videos at some later date.

So basically they can sign packages (i.e. .PKG files) for use on completely unmodified OFW, no "jailbreak" required? Or am I misunderstanding? Because that seems pretty amazing.

EDIT: And I wonder what exactly is "coming soon" to fail0verflow.com? Details of this? A signing application to sign custom code for the PS3?

stream died

Guess you didn't read the description of this year's presentation. They clearly state that this is gonna be about the PS3. I don't think there's much more they could say about the Wii.

See the little chart with the Wii listed on it, and how they talk about checkmarks which the Wii also has? Notice how the topics, although specific to the PS3 in this case, are actually general topics in regards to hacking consoles overall? Remember that all these general concepts become applicable when the next set of consoles comes out as well.

The Wii's security system is blown wide open already. All they could do is:

i) Show new exploits (little point, if they did this, they couldn't explain how they worked or they'd be patched before they're even released, and the whole point of this conference thing is to discuss how the hacks work)
ii) Show new IOS exploits (same as above, and new IOS exploits wouldn't give anything new over old IOS exploits)
iii) Explain already patched exploits or IOS exploits (less exciting than new hacks for a different console)

As for DSi, they said they may touch on its security if they had time. They didn't have time to talk about much else than the PS3. And I'm gonna guess that they don't have much to reveal on the DSi, and so all they'd have been doing would be outlining the security, and why don't have much to show off. (I am making this assumption because while there is an exploit for DSi mode code execution, that's been out for a while and nothing too interesting has been done with it, except show the speed improvement of homebrew running in DSi mode over DS mode. If they did have more done for the DSi, I reckon now would be when they would have shown it.)

And so, what they revealed for the PS3 was most interesting. As it turns out, the PS3's security system is a complete failure. But I gotta ask; if its such a failure, why has it taken so long for the PS3 to be hacked?

Because it used to run Linux?

Damn work, I missed the whole presentation.

What was said about the PS3 (I mean, other than the picture above)?

Basically, the whole security system is fail. My understanding is, much of the security revolves around the signatures placed on content running on the system. And these signatures SHOULD be generated with a random number each time. But Sony uses the SAME random number each time, which means it is easy to forge the signature, and sign most things.

EDIT: Within a few days, there should be the availability of a download of the video, so you can watch it yourself.

I knew about the download coming soon, but I wanted to know what was it all about. ^^
