Anyone install the 256gb EMMC module that's been floating around? I'm wondering if this can be partitioned to have multiple OS's. Once the android image has been fleshed out. It would be awesome to have the ability to boot straight from the NAND. Would having more internal storage raise flags on the stock OS side? I'd still like to have plenty of space to install games, and I don't want to rely on the write/read speeds of my SD card.

Would this cause a problem with nintendo? My only concern would be that.

Here's a link to a seller for the module.

Depends on if you want to spend that much money, you can get it much cheaper, I know @ModderFokker619 was planning to offer services. 512gb micro sd is much cheaper than what you would pay for it. Another thing to keep in mind nand backup would be 256gb instead of 32gb.

No point trying to boot from the the internal flash; ubuntu, lakka and etc is made to be booted via SD; it's genuinely really not worth it, sure you can increase your console nand memory at the hand of a console ban; better off just buying a good sd card.

Would the nand size cause an issue with Nintendo? What specifically would trigger a ban? I have 512gb SD already so I'm more curious than anything.

Seems to me it would be a good deal considering it's already mounted to the PCB and you just plug it in. Right now, you can't install Ubuntu or anything else into the actual NAND, but you would have a lot of more space for games. If I had $150 laying around I'd pick one up. Any changes to the NAND or running homebrew in general increases your ban risk. There is no 100% fool proof way to run CFW without increasing the risk from none (not running CFW ever) or to various percentages (running CFW and doing various things with it). Good find! Bookmarked!

I would think that the EMMC chip would “contain” the ban. Switching to another non banned EMMC chip would fix it no?

The eMMC contains the Switch OS and other information that is specific to your console. When you get a new eMMC you have to use your original eMMC data with it. You can't use data from another switch and the eMMC you'll be purchasing requires you to flash your old eMMC data to it after installation. You're buying hardware that houses the OS, it doesn't come with a brand new OS, and even if it did it wouldn't be for your specific console, so it wouldn't work correctly.

I understand that aspect. Let me rephrase, and add to this. I didn’t really consider the back up portion.

Would it be possible to use another switch’s emmc info in the 256gb module to avoid banning the original nand info?

There are tons of broken switches online. Maybe it might be possible to buy one and use its emmc info to avoid a ban.

No, your eMMC data contains stuff specifically related to your Switch. If you use another NAND from another console you're going to run into lots of problems, like not being able to play games or go online. Due to encryption it's not possible right now to convert a NAND image from another console to work properly on another. It's also highly doubtful that this will happen in the near future. Maybe down the road when quantum computers can crack today's encryption techniques, but that's far off in the distant future.

You can make backups and over write NAND with hekate or by flashing it with a very expensive NAND flasher (you can find them on aliexpress or ebay)

Over all i am not sure if NAND swap is worth it. SD cards are way cheaper and safer. And even you will change NAND you have to buy a new SD card to make a backups and stuff it's double spend, you can just buy SD and play with it may be that will cover your needs.

Ideally, I'd like a large NAND and large Micro SD card and then another Switch just for OFW + Online play. I'm probably going to buy the newer high powered Switch and keep it running OFW and use my old Switch for homebrew (which is why I bookmarked this product).

I think main concern is that those modifications aren't ban safe, but over all that is not hard to do, just make sure NAND chip is supported by a console.
I think if you have idea and ready to deal with all problems, just go for it, we will follow you at this journey(Hope you will share that exp. with us)

I’d probably buy this if someone makes a method to install an OS directly to the nand. Would love to be able to have multiple partitions and boot like a normal computer.

Hmm... Maybe I could even buy a working hackable switch to experiment with this... $400+ experiment lol

Anyone know if someone actually has been banned from using this online? Still considering doing this to my launch Switch that has never run CFW but so far I have found nothing about anyone getting a ban just for this.

Currently no. The eMMC is married with the processor. There are partitions, which are specific to each console (they need to be transfered to the new eMMC). One cannot boot with the other's signatures.

The console with a different eMMC (info) just wont work at all. No boot, no nintendo logo, no charging icon. A motherboard is "dead" if you don't have the original module and these keys are unknown. At least currently.

One can rebuild a nand, but the biskeys/boot0+boot1 are necessary.
