Hacking 2 hard drives riddle.

Hello.

I have all upto date softmods and used the Wii U hacks guide for everything.

I'm using Retroarch/Nintendont + Wii u forwarder and USBloader GX+ forwarder.

Here's the set-up:
SD has all the apps Retroarch roms and Gamecube games (so I can play NGC on the gamepad)
Hard drive 1 has Wii games which is fat32 and hidden with stealth r8.
Hard drive 2 has Wii U.

I want to put the Retroarch roms and Wiiware on drive 1 along with the Wii ISOs, and keep drive 2 for Wii u.

Can it be done without conflicts? If so which drive plugs into which port?

Wii drive goes into port 0 (top port on the rear), d2x 10-beta53-alt-vWii works with both ports, beta52 only works with the first port (beta52 is recommended as it has better compatibility), and Nintendont always uses the first drive it finds IIRC. Homebrew can use either port. Front ports also work supposedly (but the same limitations apply)
If your drives are self powered then you need Y-cables, which complicates things as you now need 4 ports instead of 2 so you need to use both front ports as well, but you can still make that work with the Wii U drive in the front ports and the Wii drive in the rear ports (using the top rear port for data, which is usually the middle one on the cable, the end one is power only)
There should not be any issues as long as you use ustealth.
For WiiWare you'll probably go the cIOS emuNAND route, which is the easiest to set up, but compatibility isn't perfect. sneek/uneek works on Wii U but it's a pain to set up, but that does give you full compatibility.

True on Wii U, not always true on Wii. I have a WD external drive that requires only the single cable on Wii but required a y-cable on Wii U, for example. I don't think this is an isolated incident because I recall reading others having the same issue.

Edit: Just realized this thread is about Wii U, sorry. Lmao.

Yeah, it should've been in the Wii U section. Confused me at first too.
I never needed an Y-cable on Wii, I've seen one or two people suggesting that you should use an Y-cable on Wii but as far as I can tell that's completely untrue. USB 3.0 drives can in theory draw up to 850mA as the current limit is higher on USB 3.0, but since they want to keep USB 2.0 compatibility, I don't think any of them actually use that much. An internal 2.5" drive in an enclosure could possibly draw more than the 2.0 limit, though.
 
Quick FYI for the Wii U HD in the bottom usb port, it seems that wup installer does not see it so have all your games installed before moving it to the bottom usb port. Another problem is that USBloader gx emunand does not work from the hard drive install but works fine from the sd card, which is odd.

Anyway thanks for the info, much appreciated.
