Trying to be a good guy and fix up in-law's 1.6B console. I previously gave it a 120gb hard drive that i had laying around, but when I set it in to power on, I found it just kept giving error 17 when I used it, even though it was a known working hard drive and already set up and working on it.
No matter... thankfully, they were smart to follow my advice and save the original hard drive the system came with.
Now, here's the issue. It just keeps failing to process or reset any hard drive to work with it, beyond just its original configuration.
Using the hexen 2020 disc, it has an option for the softmod hard disk upgrade and try to do that, and with every drive I've tried using so far, it just seems to hang forever at "formatting X:\..." it never progresses, no anything.
And if I try to set up to use Chimp to clone the original drive, it doesn't respond when I'm ready to press (A) to proceed with the operation. So it's like literally nothing is working. Granted, I expect it'll be a while before they need the console back, but I was hoping to have knocked this out in a couple of minutes... I've been at this over six hours without any result, and I am mentally exhausted and frustrated. Posting here hoping that someone can help me make sense of this or maybe figure out what the heck I gotta do, to make this bugger behave.
