I say, mods, maybe if you can ban beve/hexane, and save this forum a mass ban for unsportsman-like conduct, maybe that would be good.

But really, if there is a new firmware, why name it 1.19? Why not just go all out for 2.0. Why....

Seconded! I mean..I want to be nice all of the time. And I am to the regulars (and not so regulars) on GBAtemp that have earned respect and contribute sensible topics / replies.....Beve/Hexane26 is not & never will be one of those repsected users.

What I've done with my R4 is relegate it to running older stuff and maybe some vids or something, but use my Cyclo for new stuff and stuff I'll play more often.


I don't really expect another firmware update for the R4. I may, at some point, go through the hassle of making YSmenu work on my R4, but I don't really see the point other than hooking up my friend's kids with an alternative update for their R4's so they can continue to use them with newer games.

Well Rayder, you could always check that ehem, sticky at the top of this R4 forum, "R4YSauto", if you want a painless way to use YSMenu. I mean, setting it up, It's just uh...... Too easy! lol

Its already been verified that the r4team.com website is not related to the real R4 team. While this new "R4 Team" may or may not be releasing an update, it will not be an official update from the original and real R4 Team from r4ds.cn. So if an update is release, use it as your own risk especially if it contains code to brick clone flashcards.

If you do own an R4, what I suggest is using YSMenu with the TTDS firmware. It will breath new life into the R4, while it may not be the perfect solution, but given that the R4 is an outdated card, its a great replacement loader for the R4. It brings in neat perfect rom compatibility from the R4DS firmware which is regularly updated as well as some other nice features which beats the R4's 90% game compatibility.

It adds features like native EZ 3in1 support so you can play GameBoy Advance games straight from your flashcard as well as support for other emulators. It also has excellent cheat support as well, while the R4 doesn't support quite a few codes and code types, you have near perfect cheat support with YSMenu which happens to support USRCHEAT.dat files from the cheat database I maintain. It also allows you to open text and read text files from your flashcard as well which is useful for game guides and such. Also if you press start at the main menu, you get options to load a GBA Game from the second slot, boot back to the Nintendo DS manu where you can change your configuration without removing the flashcard as well as a PassMe feature.

Overall, YSMenu is very good and I use it with my R4. Also note that the M3 Simply and the R4 are the same flashcard, but the M3 Simply is simply rebranded with a new name so YSMenu will work on it as well. Also don't expect miracles here folks, YSMenu isn't perfect but I find it better then the R4 firmware that is currently available and also, there is no way to add SDHC support to the R4 without modifying the hardware. So don't expect SDHC support on the R4DS unless you buy one of the clones.
