    So it's a refutation of that saying. You mean the confusion is only about itself, it has nothing to do with sanity, and it's not a magnifying glass of normalcy. That's how I interpreted it. Did I get that right?

    ...a fanciful, mythologized, and completely unreal conception of it. If you were really faced with it, with its rawness, filth, vulgarity, shamelessness, violence your legs would give out, you'd piss your pants or, at most, you'd run away with your tail between your legs.
    At best, you would turn away and change your ways, continuing to dream of a positive folly of your own creation and liking.

    There is a nice, harmless, funny madness, which all in all is not even such. And then there is a real madness, heavy, dirty, violent, raw and cruel, that destroys his life and the lives of those around him, and that unfortunately I know well, having it in my family....
