Super Mario Bros. Movie Direct - Roundup

After several years of secrecy, we'll finally get our world premiere and first look into the Super Mario Bros. movie being developed by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures.

Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting to know how their beloved character would look like in this new iteration of the franchise, and most importantly, the curiosity to know how said characters will sound with the... peculiar casting announced back earlier this year.

What kind of surprises would the trailer have in store?
Follow us as we go through the unveiling of this new leap in Nintendo's history with their first new movie in decades.

And it begins!
  • We start off with some words by Shigeru Miyamoto about the movie as an introduction.
  • Focus changes to Chris Meledandri, the head at Illumination working with Nintendo to bring the Mario movie to life, mentioning they're about to finish the animation of the film's this week, and next comes lighting and compositing.
  • They're working with Koji Kondo for the music and audio of the film.
  • Miyamoto shifts focus to Chris Pratt, the voice of Mario, who mentions some of his memories playing Nintendo games.
  • Next up is Jack Black, who will be voicing Bowser in the film. Some quirky dialogue from him and shares his excitement to work with Nintendo and Illumination.

  • The trailer begins! We start with some fire falling form the sky, which shows Bowser's ship flying over to a Kingdom of ice, and Kamek makes an appearance introducing Bowser.
  • The kingdom seems to be populated with penguins, and Bowser makes quick work of them to find a Star.
  • We get to see Mario next, appearing in what seems to be the Mushroom Kingdom. He seems surprised to be there, and gets startled by a Toad.
  • The film's logo comes next, and then we get a quick glimpse of Luigi running away from some Dry Bones to close up the trailer.

  • Some finishing words by Miyamoto yet again, and that wraps up the movie's Direct!

I personally heate the jack black's acting. All the role he played are exagerated and ridiculous beyond any consider funny, hope the movie will be goid enough to don't be ruined by that actor

Why does Mario's face look like he's had some bodged up surgery.

Also, why pratt for the voice of Mario and not the original voice of Mario, like one minute we all know the high pitched wa hoo, wa haa, ahh haa voices, to pratts deeper voice.

He hasn't even tried to mimick the voice of Mario.

And he sounded like he hasn't even played a Mario game.

Ssshhh don't tell anyone, it's Fix-It Felix (Wreck-It Ralph) on a Mario disguise!

Also, Chris Pratt don't have an effing idea of how "a Mario" should be, he seem absolutely out of context here. Charles Martinet where are thou!?

Hope this and Black's acting won't ruin the movie, it really looks interesting.

Doesn't look too bad. The animation is nice. Didn't see a single Minion anywhere, which was one of the main concerns for people.

Mario is a little too... thin? Long limbed maybe? The way he ragdolls off that mushroom and so on, he's a bit too gangly. He should be stockier. No (major) complaints though.

But FUCK, it's an "origin" story again.
I really really really REALLY hope Mario won't spend 90% of the movie being a fish out of water.

Honestly, far from terrible like I thought it would be and now I actually have some hope that this will actually be pretty good and join the Sonic the Hedgehog movies as good/decent video game movies.

Jack Black's Bowser voice definitely stole the show in that trailer though.

Okay, now my interest is piqued as a gamer. My take -

First off, the setting. Couldn't be more Mario-ish than what Illumination has done. Perfect.

Second, character design. Pretty good, considering this is an animation flick. I do worry about some criticism over Mario's look, but considering this is coming from Despicable Me and Secret Life of Pets creators, they did excellent IMHO.

Next, voice acting. I've always wanted to hear the characters say more than they get to in games, and now we finally can. Again, I feel that Mario doesn't have to sound exactly like Mario does in the video games to be good. As long as Chris Pratt captures the essence of Mario's character and not just his voice, Mario can sound like a Toad, for all I care!

Finally, the story. I can tell it's going to integrate some humor from both Nintendo and Illumination, so this is gonna be a pretty funny movie. I'm actually somewhat sorry it doesn't mention a Dinohattan, but considering they want to abandon that original film and pretend it never existed, I completely understand.

Overall, I think it's going to be a great family-friendly flick. As for what people think about it... Unfortunately, even here there's already been some who say that this movie is crap. I have a bad feeling that this will not fare well overall, and Nintendo could even face bankruptcy if this doesn't do well, but I'll put any negative feelings in suspension for now as we wait for more details. It doesn't really matter; the point is that Nintendo finally is bringing Mario to the silver screen after thirty years of shame, and I say IT' S ABOUT TIME! :grog::toot::hrth:

The French dub sounds better, at least for Mario.

I like Chris Pratt a lot, but his Mario just sounds.. generic.

While I understand that Chris Pratt's voice doesn't sound great to many, but I think that it's what they were going for. Since Mario's origins confirms that he's an Italian plumber from Brooklyn and, so far, Chris's delivery where he said "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!" there was a slight Brooklyn accent being used there. Of course, as a universally well known character, the voices used in other dubs tries to be much closer to Charles Martinez's voice.
