What happened to the 3DS? What symptoms does it show? Did you backup the NAND before attempting any repairs?

CTRTransfer Type D9 relies on 11.5 source images, not the 11.15 which the magnet links on The Guide will download.

Ok I have a 2ds not the xl just a regular and the problem it has is an error that won't let me boot into the home screen the error sais "unable to mount CTRNAND or load the CTRNAND FIRM please use an external one". Then for the NAND I just backed up one but I backed it up when it was already bricked so I don't have one from before it was bricked. Then I have tried using godmode9 to transfer the image 11.15.0 ctrtransfer.bin file to CTRNAND but it gives me the message "no valid destination found" then I used CTRTransfer type d9 then the same result.

Do you have the sd card inserted into the system? Was this sd card ever tested before with h2testw when you first installed cfw? If not, it is HIGHLY recommended to do that first. as if by any chance the sd card is faulty, using it to restore either the nand or the CTRNAND could result in corrupting it even further.. Means more unnecessary complications, do you yourself a favor and test the sd card. But backup any files you might have stored in there in to your computer.

Format it as FAT32 32KB cluster size, test it with h2testw, if it passes the test, re-do the steps here, and get the latest Luma3DS & GodMode9 files as they're the ones you need now, and do the steps on Section VI "Setup Luma3DS CTRNAND".
Pop it back into the 3DS, it'll show the Luma3DS menu, click on "Show nand strings.." and press "start". It should boot to the home menu, if not we'll see what we can do.

Does [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND show up in GodMode9?

Then you know why standard CTRTransfer won't work. It tries to copy files into a non-existing/damaged partition.

Same here. You can't copy files to [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND if it isn't there.
===========

You'll need the CTRTransfer image for your region, version 11.5 not 11.15 for using CTRTransfer Type D9. The script should be able to repair the firmware.

whenever I use the version 11.15 ctrtransfer file with type d9 it says [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND the drive is empty or not mountable (I don't have the drive to begin with or even know how to get it) Continue? Ctrtransfer_o3ds.bin.sha File is too small. Then that's it I don't know what to do from there.

It won't work with the 11.15 images. The script strictly tests (even with checksum as far as I know) if the file you are about to use is a known, good one. Since the script hasn't been updated (TurdPooCharger is inactive), it doesn't know about the new files advertised on The Guide.

We may not share links to copyrighted material on the forum. You're on your own trying to get the image. Only thing I can do is link to an old version (via Wayback Machine) of 3ds.hacks.guide. I don't use Torrent and have no idea if these will still work (if somebody is seeding them).

It sounds like your nand chip is kaput, I'm not sure if you might not be able to make an emunand from scratch to get around that though. Worth a try.

You could attempt formatting the SD card for emunand while in gm9, it might choke because of the broken ctrnand though. But if you can get recognizeable emunand partitions going, you may be able to ctrtransfer over it afterwards. Then you may have to create valid console-unique files from scratch (localfriendcodeseed, secureinfo, etc) or if you're lucky you already have undamaged essentials.exefs on nand that you can extract your genuine ones from.

If you have another functional system you can use, that may help a lot. You could pull certain files from it like friendcodeseed that would let you continue to play online on the broken console, as long as that friendcodeseed isnt banned.

Of course, if you have a good nand backup of this particular 3ds, you can use that for your emunand instead of creating an emunand from scratch and doing a ctrtransfer, and that would save you a lot of trouble. Format the card for emunand, then on PC side there are a few programs to inject a nand backup into the nand partition. Then you would hopefully be able to boot into it with luma. and if creating the partition doesn't work because of broken nand, a working unit could create the partition and you just overwrite the emunand with the broken one's backup.

What makes you think of hardware damage?
I would try software repair first - and fully agree otherwise.

Preferably the files from essentials.exefs. The NAND can't be a total defect - else B9S wouldn't be there anymore and we would have a case of 8046 Bootrom error.

Good news! I got the 2ds back to running order by using an older ctrtransfer file so I'm available to roam the home menu. I want to get my games back, so I used faketik and it says No missing tickets and WHY DID MY GAME NOT APPEAR? so I used TWLFix to uninstall the files, but it failed all of them and when I try to launch the twilight menu it gives me the error I had in the beginning unable to mount ctrnand.

Edit: I got Twilight menu working again I just needed to do another update but getting my games back are still an issue.

Hi, first post here. I'm experiencing the same issue where if I try and run the ctrtransfer D9 if gives me the .bin.sha file is too small. If I restart the system, I get fastboot3ds still works and if I reboot it gives me a Arm9 error. Anyone have any ideas I tried so many things of this forum to get it working again, appreciate the help

What issues were you having that led you to ctrtransfer type d9? What have you methods tried so far in order to fix it?
I assume your sd card was checked with h2testw for errors, right? Have you tried doing the normal ctrtransfer?

I haven't tested it myself, but I understood that the 11.15 images worked as long as you added an extra region-appropriate byte to the .sha file?
