Hi all,
Newbie here. I'm an about to graduate college senior with some experience in programming.
I'd like to learn how to mod 3ds games.
Honestly would like to mod ever oasis to have a happy ending, and yokai watch (all three) to be able to better use a controller for gameplay in citra.

Any tips or guides on how to get started ?
Thanks !

no idea on ever oasis, for yokai watch, i wouldnt mod the game itself, there's not much documentation on how it works, and modding the game itself just wouldnt be a good use of time (people havent figured out how to rip models from the game, even). I would just mess with citra's controller bindings, or if there's something fancy, like, say, binding a touchscreen item to a button, I would just set up an autohotkey script that does it. That being said, if you figure out how to mod yokai watch, please look into the model formats, it would mean a lot to me.

You will find your college education may not necessarily apply readily to modding. There aren't a lot of mods for 3DS games in general. The limitations of the system mean that different games will very frequently have their own way of doing things and that techniques that apply to one game will not at all readily apply to other games.

Have you ever modded anything before?

Thanks for the advice.
I've got some time this summer. If I figure it out how to mod the game itself, I'll make sure to share a write up.

You are 100% right. I've noticed college doesn't teach "reverse engineering" .
I've only modded pc games that have dlls that I could decompile using things like dotPeek or something.

I saw the zelda majora's mask 3ds mod, and I got a burning desire to do something like it .

There is indeed no equivalent for the 3DS.

Then a good place to start would be to read up on that particular mod and the tools involved - but it's probably not going to help you much when it comes to modding Yo-Kai Watch or Ever Oasis.
