So I've been using uLaunchELF to back up my PS1 saves and I hit a snag.

I think this save for Tekken 1 has an illegal filename but since it was named outside of Windows it is allowed to exist as-is. However I can't do anything with it (I can't even rename it).

Any advice?

ulaunch creates a txt file for malformed names:

this is the only save I have that has a save that had to be renamed. iirc, the save name is not part of the save itself. it's part of the toc or the first block of the memory card. there are technically 16 blocks for a total of 128KBs. the first is toc (table of contents), the other 15 are the saves. the best suggestion I could give you is to create a save for that game, then rename that save you're trying to use based on that, and overwrite it.

btw, whenever you convert the save, like to mcs, the save name is written to the header, so the toc isn't needed to name the save.

Where did that text file get pushed to? I don't see it on my USB drive after copying the file to my mass storage device.

Also could you explain your solution in a little more detail ("create a save for that game"?)?

I don't know what happened. when I copied all of my saves to usb, I think it mentioned one having to be renamed. it made a text file in the same location as the saves with the real name and the name it changed it to. it's due to windows not allowing certain characters in file names, because the character is usually used in code.

the suggestion is making a new save for that game, then checking what the save is named.

Hm...maybe you're using a newer version of uLaunchELF than I am. When I copied the save it just dumped it as-is without trying to rename it (that's how I ended up in this situation in the first place).

I can rename the file manually but that causes the game to lose track of the file when I restore it (which is what I would expect).

Dunno. Mine isn't the latest. I'm still using a hard mod

not sure. I haven't really played much of my ps2 for a while. I had issues with an even later version to where I couldn't copy and paste. that's why I'm using this version. my folders are pink with it in order to go with my other name, pinky. :D
