I would like to get monster hunter rise for switch since I heard that it's an amazing game. However. My switch is banned and can't play online. Is it still worth it for single player? Can I still do everything in the game ?

don't know the answer to this, but I'd be interested in knowing if this is mainly an online game or not. I bought the game on the switch, digitally, but I haven't played it yet. I'm not banned though. I just remember enjoying one of the previous monster hunter games, which is why I bought it.

Single player is fine, i am enjoying single player.
I have a friend who has it as well, His switch is legit mine is banned.

I have heard its possible to setup a ad-Hoc (basically like a VPN you both connect to)
Then you play the game locally and you can play together. I have yet to try this but theoretically this is possible

Singleplayer is totally fine to play, tho if you still want to play with your friends your only solution would be to get together and play via "Local Lobbies"
even with a banned switch you don't need something fancy to play together (can confirm since i've been playing localy with my buddy with no issues)

You can do all the Gathering Hub quests solo offline, but they'll be more difficult because they're balanced for 2+ players. I'd say maybe 50% harder than the same monster would be in single player. You can do local play with a banned Switch and eventually somebody will probably work out how to do spoof local multiplayer through LAN for an online experience.

It is a great game though, and what World should've been.

Search for lan-play if you want to play online

Does Lan-Play requiere latest firmware of the console to work? Could you please point me in the direction of a good tutorial or something? I checked the page and I have tried LANPLAY on my banned Switch but, when I try to connect it says that the online services have been restricted etc.

Thanks

I dont know about firmware version but I dont think that the last one is necessary. Just make sure you have the game updated, last amtosphere and ldn_mitm kip. And one last thing, inside the game do not go to Online, you need to select LAN mode

You CAN play the hub quests offline but you'll be going up against monsters that are meant for 4 man parties.

I have the same issue but I’m still enjoying the game to the max in single player, the multiplayer aspect is not necessary in fact I know a lot of people who have a non banned switch yet still prefer playing single player only.

Yes, it definitely worth it. I play it completely solo and enjoy it (currently finishing 6* hub key quests). In Rise all hub quests are scaled depending on number of players. You play alone -> hub quests are scaled down for one player.
The only downside for solo player are urgent rampage quests. You need to complete one (Apex Arzuros) to get into high rank and one (*spoiler*) to get into 7* hub.
IMHO, they are not fun for solo player.

Also you can play online with lan play (cfw online).

Not really the case in Rise. Monsters scale to players. Heck, I've found it easier to play solo hub.

Solo/village ranks are like an intro to the game, where online/multiplayer is where the majority of people who continue playing spend hundreds of hours.

Single player mode (village) is like %30 of what's available in terms of what monsters you can fight and what gear you can craft.

MP mode scales with the number of players involved, but I think it is super boring and ridiculously drawn out to do single player. With MP, it's a lot faster, more exciting, and you can pop in and pop out doing 3 hunts in the time it takes you to do 1 solo. Personally, I think it isn't fun to do MP content solo, but some people might? I see people saying that "you can", but how many of them are actually doing it, and to what extent?

The question is... how much do you want to enjoy it? If you want to try it out casually--don't buy it. Maybe if you could *demo* it () you could get 15-20 hours of enjoyment from it. If you bought an unbanned switch for the game, you might possibly never need another game again. Honestly, between MHGU and MH:Rise, an unbanned switch would be worth the purchase. Bonus if you can find an unpatched one, hack it, and not get yourself banned... again.

Not really the case in Rise. Monsters scale to players. Heck, I've found it easier to play solo hub.

To really evaluate this kind of claim, we'd need to see how many hours you have and what kind of gear you've got.

MP scales, and the monster's base HP is very high even in solo mode. It was built around the idea that multiple people were going to stun a monster, debuff a monster, ride a monster, and all kinds of other antics--leading to relatively faster completion of the quest, and in a more exciting kind of experience.

What exactly makes it "easier" to play solo hub? Are you pairing up with people who cart when you do MP?

I mean I'm 110 hours in, have done every quest, and I'm running a pretty optimal DB set. Solo means monsters target only you, making the fight more predictable, and eliminates the possibility of, like you said, random carting. In my time playing, I've had maybe three quests last more than 15 minutes. Hunts very rarely go on longer than 10 minutes, and it's usually a similar completion time regardless of the player count for me at least.

Solo is just simpler I guess? Don't get me wrong, multi is fun, but it doesn't feel like it has half as much of an impact as it did in previous games. The HP scaling just feels a bit too well done to the point where there's no real advantage outside of strategic part breaking.

My first question would be, have you played other MH games in the past and enjoyed them? I only ask because if not, you very well might not even enjoy the game. Imo it's a very niche franchise. I've tried several of them throughout the years and have very much disliked every single one. Just for starters I feel they are boring, clunky ass games with poor monster animations and combat. Opinion, naturally. If you've played others and liked them... go for it.

Seems like you are a veteran of the series--which I have respect. I'm not very good at this game, and I find that not always being the primary target to be a relief. I solo'd a couple of times and my experience resulted in much longer quest-times. The difference in our experiences is interesting and perhaps could be based on the variable of familiarity with the franchise.

I used to feel the games were clunky. But then I learned how to play them. A lot of games cater to instant gratification in terms of response, ie swinging a heavy sword and then bailing out instantly vs MH's method of making you commit to your actions. It's niche in the sense that it has it's own unique gameplay, but it is wildly successful for the same reason.

I could be wrong but I believe the monsters are already scaled for 4 players regardless of playercount in the hunt.

I read a little more in the thread, I guess they do scale down for one player which is good news to hear!
