Nintendo removes Netflix from 3DS and Wii U eShops, service to be discontinued this year

As the new year rang in across the world, Nintendo was at work quietly removing the Netflix application from the eShop for both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. The app was removed on December 31st, 2020, according to a statement released on the Nintendo of America customer support site. The statement assures that users who have already downloaded the Netflix app in the past will be able to re-download it for now, but no new downloads will be available on either platform. The statement goes on to inform that, as of June 30th, 2021, the Netflix service will be discontinued on both devices.

at least someone uploaded the CIA for Netflix, but unless if there's a workaround (there isn't prolly) then the effort to save Netflix on the 3DS and WiiU is futile

Are people missing this line? Even if you have the app downloaded, it won't do anything after June.

I thought it was already deactivated at the same time as the Wii version stopped working.

i don't know about the wiiu but on the 3ds it was very poorly made, that being because of the resolution or simply the streaming capabilities... it sucked. not a bad idea to get rid of it, along with youtube.

must have run out of device registration allocations on their premium subscription. removing two accounts means they can register two new devices!

that's totally how that works, right?

At this point, Netflix is a shadow of what it once was. Most Netflix Original series in the last 4-5 years are hot garbage or just meh. I'd much rather go watch Hulu or end up with Amazon Prime.

I gotta say I'm honestly not surprised they're shutting it down, but dang, I have some great memories watching the Super Mario Bros Show and Pokemon: Indigo League on my 3DS when I was younger. Now my family doesn't even pay for Netflix due to the lack of stuff to watch.

Okay, now put it on switch then if you gonna remove it.
i remember this one youtube comment, where they contacted Netflix about a Switch app, Netflix told them to contact Nintendo, they contacted Nintendo, they told them to contact Netflix, so they talk to Netflix again and told them so, the person at the phone said they'd get the message to the software development team and they'd look into it

I cannot believe people enjoy watching movies on small screens.
eh, the sun-moon effect (there's probably a scientific name but that's how i call it) compensates the size

Not sure how long ago that was, but all I know is now is 2021 and still no netflix. Back when wii u launched, Netflix was one of the first services on there. Now on switch, hulu on there, "izneo" and EVEN FUNIMATION is on there. That's just embarrassing. Especially since netflix is one of top rated services compared to stuff like funimation or a Ebook app like izneo. Let not forget on wii in 2009, it was the ONLY one on that console, even had its own disc, no other service had.

Rockstar would have nothing to do with it. If Sony closes online services for PS3, then you won't be able to play GTA V online no matter what R* does.
I meant before SONY discontinues it.

Think the only people who still play it on PS3 are kids. And it's because it's free.

Can you elaborate this please?
the sun is 400 times bigger than the moon, however, since it's also 400 times further away from earth than the moon, they both appear as if they are the same size.

Thats one of the reason softmodding is important . . . you never know when Nintendo will take shit away from you !
if netflix stops supporting the app i doubt having the client would really be useful
