NieR Replicant to get an updated release on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam

Today, Square Enix hosted a 10th anniversary livestream for the NieR series, announcing a new project. NieR Replicant will be getting a new release on current generation hardware. Rather than call it a remake or remaster, Square Enix is referring to this port as NieR Replicant ver. 1..22474487139, an "updated version" with new voice recordings and remastered music. The game has also been confirmed for a western release, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam.

Was this game any good? I never heard of Nier replicant. I did play nier automata on ps4 though and enjoyed it very much (thought it was a bit overrated from all the hype I read, but definitely loved the game. The music was NOT overrated though. Music was simply beautiful).

edit: nier automata was the only nier game I ever played. I didn’t even know there existed other nier game’s like replicant lol.

It has flaws that overall makes this game worse than Automata - combat system is clunky, open world is less diversive, story is more subtle, which can left many people confused. But Replicant is superior in terms of atmosphere. It reminds me of first Assassin's Creed in this terms. Remaking combat system would make this game much better.

So, automata took everything good about NieR and made it better. In this game you can't use your pod and melee at the same time, which means that pod abilities like laser or spears force you to stop and slow down while charging, unable to swing your weapon. The combat system isn't nearly as fleshed out, so not as many combos. The weapon system... is different. Overall, the combat definitely feels clunkier, and the movement as a result feels like a gamecube era game.
The areas are probably about the same; the style of game is like a fledgling of automata, where automata has you seamlessly transitioning from isometric, behind the shoulder, and side scroller, NieR uses them all limitedly and only in certain sections. They're not fluid, and you've basically got loading screens between transitions.
The story is hard to comment on. I personally felt it was just as good.

I'll say it again, I think NieR was a fantastic game. It's mechanics have definitely aged, and Automata is what I would call a perfect sequel: all those ideas that got thrown in but never truly integrated or fleshed out got reworked, integrated, and optimized for a far more fluid game. Every last idea that Automata had, NieR introduced, but just didn't have the maturity to implement properly. Every. Last. One.

They haven't shown shit in the announcement,

1. You're talking about Nier Automata

2. Denuvo on PC...where you can...ahem..."bypass" the DRM if you know where to sail...or if the publisher accidentally leaves a Denuvo-less .exe in the files or they just remove it entirely in a subsequent patch, which isn't a guarantee, I'm aware, but still.

3. Fan patches are a good thing IMO. Yes, they shouldn't be necessary, but at the very least, they're an option that not even console players who use homebrew have as far as I'm aware.
Ah yes I remember the Nier anti piracy incident it was a pretty big deal in the media back then. Thankfully Steam made the said modder turn over a new leaf with his file delete actions. But yeah hopefully they will release Replicant fully optimized that way we wont need to rely on 3rd party tools for anything. But hey PC ports always get the short end of the stick.

A) I love this game.

B) Bwahahaha! I can't imagine the reaction of someone who knows nothing about this game picking this up because they like Nier: Automata. They are very different game play wise.

So good to see nier replicant get a updated release but it is a bit late. For anyone who forgot this also has multiple endings & a talking book.

Now we need folklore to be release seems to be a forgotten hidden gem.

Can't wait i personally enjoyed this way more than the sequel co made by platinum that had less story and more action. This game has more story and the complex way of doing so by the creator that not everyone loves but i do alot.

I played the Gestalt and loved every bit of the game, the story, the music, the artwork, and even the gameplay. I finished all endings and each ending gave me a new experience. I even read the ending E (CMIIW the base game has 4 endings) from the novel. I have not played the Automata.

Now time to compare the "Onii-chan" mode to the father story. Can't wait to listen to Wretched Automatons again!

The one we got in the west was the 360 version, which was Gestalt, this one specifically states Replicant, which was the PS3 version with the younger protagonist (and technically, the more 'canon' protagonist so to say).

This is great news!
...although, as much as I love the Drakengard/Nier franchise (I own physical releases for all of them except Drakengard 2), I've never managed to complete any of them... Nier being a double annoyance as I own the X360 release, but got further with the fan translation of the Japanese Nier Replicant on PS3 just because I prefer that protagonist... wonder if this rerelease/remaster(?) will have both protagonists?

To be fair they're the exact same person and can'r really be viewed as another character. One is just made a bit older but they still have the same hair etc that is typical for the drakengard universe and also directly ties into automata.
