Better yet, get a slim one that can install cfw and mod it. After that, use webman to run your backups, better compatibility. The other best option is a slim or super slim that can't run cfw, but they can do HEN, which these days is almost the same. What is the best and most trustworty place to buy a used or renewed PS3 that can officially run PS2 games?
As well as having your firmware low enough to mod it, preferably.
If you’re looking for a CECHA01 or CECHB01 model, eBay is good, but they’re not cheap. You can also try pawnshops. I’ve found they’re great since they don’t know what they have, or care. To them an A is the same as every other fat model. The ones around here will ask $75 and include games, but it’s easy to talk them down to $60. If you’re buying, modding, and reselling like myself, you can ask for a bulk purchase discount and get them for $50 each but you gotta buy 10, and they won’t all be fats. What is the best and most trustworty place to buy a used or renewed PS3 that can officially run PS2 games?

You can turn the fan mod down. If it YLOD it probably wasn’t a cooling mod and needed to be cleaned & thermal paste replaced.I wouldn''t chance it on one of those old PS3s. The best ones for backwards compatibility were also very prone to the YLOD.
I ended up with one off of eBay. "Refurbished" piece of junk, the seller had installed a fan mod that basically forced the fans to run at 100% all the time. The noise was so loud it was pretty much unplayable, and it still ended up throwing a YLOD again anyway.
Oh I'm sure it needs a complete reball. After it threw the YLOD I opened the console and sure enough there was a potentiometer for controlling the fan. eBay post said it was refurbished, had a 30 day return policy but they were strict that they wouldn't take it back if the case had been opened. It barely lasted over that return policy. You can turn the fan mod down. If it YLOD it probably wasn’t a cooling mod and needed to be cleaned & thermal paste replaced.
You can get them for $50 if you stick to your price on Facebook. Pawnshops sell them for $75. Webman is okay but gets buggy with Ferrox, control fan utility is better imo.dude just get a slim 2 or 21 if you want full cfw i picked mine up for $100 easy though i'd do two things 1) put new thermal paste on the cpu/gpu (99% chance unless already done it's dried up and will overheat quickly) and 2 install webman and turn on dynamic fan control keep the settings on default for temp ranges
