Hello,

I bought a Switch to be repaired.
Nothing on the screen after pushing power button and after first check I changed PI3USB.

Switch can now charging and power on. It works perfectly... in handheld mode and no TV signal on docking mode
I read I'm not alone with this recurrent problem.

I checked :
filters => continuity OK
capacitors nearby PI3USB and M92T36 => no shorts

I decided to check with battery and USB cable plugged and discovered that the 4 capacitors below PI3USB have no power. (0.09v instead of around 3.3v)

So, can someone tell me if capacitors are bad or is it PI3USB or another component who supply voltage to these capacitors ?

Thanks for help ;-)

According to the datasheet these at least 4 pins (32,29,26,23) from PI3USB are VDD so I understand that it is not the chip who provide the power but received it from the board.

I also read on previous post:
*********************************
If no image on HDMI docking - Check 3v is getting to the PI3USB.Ok but where to check if it hasn't voltage ?
I would also check if the dock LED go green and the TV attempts to find a signal. Yes it has.
Check around the passives around PI3USB. In particular the ferrite filters. These are quote weak!! check impedance & continuity is uniform with all of them. Correct

*******************************

I 've just changing M92T36 even it has no shorts, but no improvement. Still no 3v on these 4 caps.
I think it will be possible to have a faulty component between output of M92T36 and VDD of PI3USB.
Do you have an idea ?

Damned just wanted to measure the caps value. I connected battery and put original charger into USB port and had a fire into PI3USB

I'm actually waiting for a reballing service. The person is waiting for the stencil from Aliexpress.
I will of course post the result.

Sorry my reply is not for this post.

I solved the problem by changing PI3USB

Hi, can you confirm by changing the pi3 chip again this fixed the issue?
Sorry for old bump, didn't want a start a new thread for same issue.

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol

I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.

Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol

I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
