People saying a Switch mini would be pointless because of no HD rumble or joycons are forgetting 4 things:

1. Joycons sold separately
2. HDMI out port wouldn't be too difficult to implement.
3. Pokemon Sword
4. Pokemon Shield

Though, I'd be pissed cos my Switch is only a year old and I would've preferred to buy a mini one with an HDMI port over this worst of both worlds garbage that can't fit in my purse like a handheld and is severely underpowered for a 2017 home console.

Hopefully USB C cable to HDMI does the trick

what I want for pro switch:

1)10 inch screen (just open a screenshot of any game on a tablet to see how beautiful the game looks on 10 inches)
2) more cpu and RAM (Ns business justicifaction, they can sell VC GC and wii gmes)
3) side railing holders for vertical shooters, donkey kong arcade etc.
4) bigger battery
5) better cooling wont be hard with the larger suracfe area
6)redesign joycons so they dont look like little kiddy toys

Thats it

Just bought a Switch 3 weeks ago and I'm a bit concerned. Do you guys think with the "Switch Pro" the big future titles like Xenoblade 3, a future Zelda, the next Fire Emblem after Three Houses or many third party games might not run on the old Switch? What are the chances that Nintendo does something like this? I remember they did it with the DSi and New 3DS, even though only a handful of titles were only running on these system revisions.

Or do you think Nintendo will follow Sony's/Microsoft's strategy, basically supporting higher resolutions on the Pro while we will see more and more future Switch releases that are more demanding only running in 720p or even below through adaptive resolutions (like many Vita games do) on the old/current Switch?

Well they could try but it will likely blow up in their faces again. I doubt the mini will be able to raise clocks any, meaning you lock yourself out of that market as well as OG switches if you won't support it. In fact the N3DS exclusive physical releases were all "second party" games, even Nintendo didn't have much faith in that practice, they just seemed willing to allow it where Sony/MS haven't, likely only because they wanted to sell SNES games digitially that needed the new hardware. Same with the DSi where there were very few physical exclusives, it was mostly an eshop initiative.

Another big difference is that the N3DS line was actually a huge processor and RAM upgrade, but the GPU was untouched. The Xbox and PS4 upgrades focused more on GPU than CPU, which is why the main difference is that they can run at higher resolutions. We don't really know which way this would go with the Switch at the moment, but I'd say GPU upgrades would make scaling down with dynamic resolution trivial compared to removing some of the features that a massively improved CPU opens up.

Reminder that running games at 60FPS requires significantly more from a system than 30FPS; you're looking at 16.6ms per frame rather than 33.3, which means the GPU has to work twice as hard, and it's also extra strain on the CPU to work out all the physics and calculations twice as fast while sending more instructions to the GPU.

Realistically, a bolstered memory layout would help games to run at higher resolution (especially given how many Switch games are running at sub-HD now, docked) but would not be a be-all and end-all, as it would still be held back by the bandwidth and the mobile GPU. The SoC would be roughly twice as fast, perhaps less when factoring in Nintendo's obligatory down clocks and portable mode restraints. I'd say patches that increase resolution from 900p to 1080p would be feasible, or 720p to 900p, but doubling the frame rate is incredibly unlikely. It's fun to speculate I suppose.

I want native 1080p better color and less light reflection, console optimization so I don’t care about cpu gpu ram. Display and battery life is what we are looking for.

what I want for a nintendo "switch" pro:

-rx 580/590/gtx 1660 variation instead of tegra variation with proper dedicated vram
-zen processor
-8gb ram
-removable/upgradeable sata ssd. better than shitty speeds from sd cards.
-more focused on play docked mode. Actually, does not even need to have a portable mode (after all, the name "switch" already lose its purpose, since switch lite does not have docked mode to "switch" to/from.
-U$ 400,00

equals=1080p60fps on all titles forever.

That's minimum for a PRO name.

There's no ARM Zen processor. Who knows if there ever will be.

- a full sized GPU would not fit in a tablet let alone with cooling; this would also be incompatible with existing software written for the Tegra SoC
- a zen processor would not fit in a tablet let alone with cooling; this would also be incompatible with existing software written for the Tegra SoC
- an ssd would not fit in a tablet
- if it was docked only, are you suggesting it becomes a dock with no screen?
- an rx 580/590/1660 will not produce 1080p60fps on all titles for 5 years, let alone forever, unless you'll be slaughtering graphics settings. do you think the best GPU from 2009 could play 2019's wolfenstein youngblood at 1080p60FPS? moreover, despite initial promises of HD gaming in every game, the ps3 and 360 probably had more games running at 1024x768 or below than 1280x720 or above - claims like this have already been mocked by history and are more or less completely ignorant of technological advancements or more simply tech in general

equals=load of bollocks

(why did you say "equals[equals sign]" by the way)

yep. not a tablet. but a console.

switch lite = portable only
switch = portable/tv mode
switch pro = console/tv mode only.

yep, I think 1080p60fps titles 5 years from now is possible with high quality on rx580/590 or gtx 1660.

Much like microsoft did with xbox one x, very powerful (for a console).

I said what I want, but Like @DeoNaught said, Its Nintendo, I know... Problably what we will get is nintendo switch "XL", with some minor adjustments with a pro name in a nice removable colored cover case.

I don't believe a more powerful Nintendo Switch is very likely. Maybe a new, more powerful console released by Nintendo 3 or 4 years from now, but I wouldn't expect backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch titles unless it's either powerful enough to emulate it or there's incredible development in portable, ARM technology in the next 2 or 3 years.

As mentioned in the thread, Nintendo did release more capable revisions of their hardware in the past: the DSi and the New 3DS. Exclusive titles did exist, but there were better reasons for the revisions: the DSi allowed one to download DSiWare games onto an SD card, and the New 3DS brought face-tracking 3D (that Miyamoto said had been planned for the 3DS from the get-go) and the C-stick to replace the Circle Pad Pro. Moreover, the Switch was released in 2017, merging the company's handheld and console divisions into one. To release a new system so soon would be cannibalizing their own product, especially now that they just released the Switch Lite.

That said, the XBOX ONE X and the Play Station 4 Pro are far ahead of the Switch performance wise, and both feature x86_64 architecture CPUs, making it easier for companies to port PC games to it and vice versa. The XBOX Series X and Play Station 5 will likely stay on the same architecture, and thus graphically impressive AAA titles will likely appear there first. We're already seeing how those titles perform on the Switch with the watered down albeit impressive ports. With the release of the two consoles in late 2020, the Switch will likely become an indie platform much like the Vita did, despite the first party support from Nintendo with which Sony didn't bless the Vita.

Perhaps Nintendo doesn't want to compete with Sony and Microsoft directly as they had done in the past, but unfortunately third party support goes away as quickly as it comes. I just hope they have many more first party games planned for the Switch since that's what I like to play and I just ordered mine.
