Warranty is great and all, but if it spends most of the 3 years getting repaired there is not much point in owning such a lemon.

Seriously though, there is supposed to be a further redesign coming in a few months that will be taking such things into consideration while scaling down the "other" chips that they didn't recently, I just wonder how far off the '720 is going to be though (xbox1 got dropped like it was dung for new releases when 360 hit the "its coming soon to" shelves.)

Yeah I guess waiting would be a good idea. Not enough games on PS3 to be worth the price and the 360 still has hardware problems (so some people say?)

I'm pretty sure the new 360s are fixed though...can anyone confirm?

BoneMonkey RRoD should no longer be a concern. The latest Xbox 360s have the new 65nm Falcon chipset which cools down the system immensely, plus an extra and improved heatsink, and various other internal revisions. All of these factors cool down the system to normal levels, so that the 360 is near cool to the touch. HOWEVER, I must stress that while the new Falcon motherboard/chip 360s will supposedly stop the RRoD from occuring, nothing is proven yet.

And a bit of a lesson for a moment, the reason 360s RRoD on people is because the internal temperature is so hot that the motherboard warps and the chips come off. Those who do have the Falcon system though, have tested both the power and heat output levels and their is a significant decrease in both, suggesting that it should work longterm (but only time will tell). As previously stated since the consoles heat sees a significant decrease with the new chips (plus the new heatsinks, etc), RRoD will more than likely not be a problem for the new consoles.

One more thing, the Falcon motherboard Xbox 360s are not yet widely available. You don't need to wait until next year, just wait 3 - 4 months or so and by then the revised/improved systems should have widespread availability all over North America. This is what I've been waiting for since the Xbox 360 launched, and I refuse to purchase one until I can be absolutely sure I can get a Falcon. Which is why I'm waiting out the holiday season, and letting the more eager consumers buy out the old stock of RRoD 360s. Then when all the new stock starts hitting the shelves I'll swoop in and land myself one a good one.

Ace, thought mayb you might know the answer to this because it seems you've done your research on the matter!

Do you know if the new falcon chipset 360's have mostly the unflashable hitachi? or the newly flashable benq drives?

I have a flashed 360 but I'm planning on one day having to buy a new one because of the impending doom that is RROD..And so I would like my next one to be one of the falcons but mainly only if it's flashable..hehe ya know?

It seems to vary based on the manufacturing team. I'd say at this point it's pretty evenly split, some with Hitachi, some with BenQ. If I absolutely had to make a call on this one, I'd say there were a few more BenQ than Hitachi, from what I've seen.

That's not so true

New RRoD on Falcon!

A friend of mine wanted a 360, so I made him buy a broken one (RRoD) and I repaired it for him. Pretty simple, if you ask me

We won't know if the Falcon chips work for sure until there's more in the wild. Wait it out, then we'll find out if it truly works. Although it fixes the heat problem, so in theory it should.

guess im getting a wii lol

hopefually mario kart wii comes out soon !

Well there's nothing wrong with a nice Wii, but seriously BoneMonkey, if you really want an Xbox 360, wait 3 months. Then come ask me what's going down with the Falcon and I'll inform you if it's working or not.

ps3 sux! i bought one and returned it in 3 days. look on ign.com for a head to head on the same games. xbox 360 has one all of the matches. especially madden ....ps3 30fps x360 60fps! lol. and on assasins creed the ps3 version gets framerate drop for no reasons. these are all facts by the way.

You do know that 30fps doesn't really feel different to 60fps if you're looking straight at the screen.

played NHL 08 on 720p for about 2 hours then went home and played in on 1080i (TV doesn't support 1080p and I thought 1080i was better than 720p). It felt completely weird and I couldn't tell what was wrong. Did some research, 1080i doesn't support 60fps but the 720p does.

It is true that if you only have a tv that only supports 30fps anyways you aren't going to tell the difference, but the difference is definitely there.

We need a console war forum

Nice. Who knows maybe I won't even have to worry about it with the x-clamp fix and all

Or maybe those new Hitachis will be flashable by then? I've heard that C4Eva doesn't like working on firmware for hitachis though :/

I'm still kind of reluctant to buy a 360, cause of the RRoD. I probably will get one by December or even earlier, I'm itching for a 360.

No. There's a big gulf of difference between a game running at 60 fps and one at 30. Animation, for instance, will seem much, much more fluid in at 60 fps.
