He's talking about Hex values. You need a Hex Editor, such as HxD which is free and I'd say pretty good overall.

Bare in mind, I have not tried this myself, but it's a very simple process, you don't really need all that much knowledge about it to do it.

You'd need to download a normal copy of Nintendont or other app as blackb0x mentions (usually renamed boot.dol to work with the Wii), load it on the Hex Editor and push CRTL + F to make a "Hex Search", and look for "38 80 00 01 38 60 00 65". The editor should take you to were that string of values is located at, should it find it inside the file. Once found, you should replace that code with "38 80 00 03 38 60 00 65". Or just change the "01" to 03", as it seems to be the only changed part.

Then save the file and you'd have the application "patched".

OK i did the process and it seems to work, but in not64 the hex address needed to change doesnt exist also on the WiiMCSS, i´ll do test to see if they work fine on the other apps.

The last version of Not64 has that already fixed, and I think WiiMCSS has it too, most probably that's why you couldn't find it. You can try to search the Hex string that's already fixed (so "38 80 00 03 38 60 00 65") and see if that exists, just for curiosity.

Leseratte made a patch for usbloadergx to always patch games dynamically, but I don't see any differences in games.
the patch's log says it worked, and the patch was correctly applied, but I can't tell if the patch has any visual effect at all.
can anyone confirm they see an actual difference or improvement ?

I'm using a PAL launch-day Wii, 480p widescreen (on a 4k tv if it matters)
I didn't try the patch on WiiU vWii yet.

Extrems said screenshots would not be useful to compare as they are not affected (screenshots are from the video buffer, not the renderer chipset, and the patch is for the renderer if I understand correctly)

what should we look at ? 3D models, 2D, textures, font, etc.? help me see the improvement, and confirm there is really one, or I don't see the reason to add that patch for nothing perceptible. I'm not doubting your work Leseratte, just wondering if it's really visually stunning or nobody see the differences.

Well, I don't think Extrems said so. He said that screenshots taken from WiiRD (or something like that, I don't remember the debbuger name) wouldn't be useful, but the screenshots uploaded just some posts above were taken from the TV itself, so they should be valid.

yeah, you are right he talked about Wiird, I just assumed you used the console to take the screenshot and didn't read your post properly. sorry for that.
but comparing the screenshot I don't see any differences either.
I wonder what to look, if it's maybe not width/height/scanline, color/hue, but time based instead (frequencies? smoother edges on animated area?) and if there is a real benefit

if it's supposed to be easy to notice, maybe the patch is not working? it detects the addresses to patch, but maybe there are more than one place that value is located in the game's dol? or the patch is lost at game launch, or the game doesn't really init the video as it should?

It should be informative to know which Wii revision was used for those screenshots.
I don't know my Wii revision, but, as I said, It gotta be one of the older ones as I could install bootmii as boot2 on it. Maybe one day I'll take the time to check its revision.

Maybe that.
The problem is there aren't many talented active developers left on the Wii scene to take a look into the issue. Extrems focus on Gamecube rather than on Wii homebrew development. I think the best suited for the job (besides Leseratte) would be Eke-Eke for his deep knowledge about the GX driver and all and he is still maintaining GenPlus GX to this day, so he is somewhat still active. Maybe he could give us a hint but I am not sure if he even has an account on this forum.

It's subtle, but noticeable. It's easiest to see if you're using a 480p panel.

The situation appears to the user as
- original: graphics are not pixel-aligned horizontally
- fixed: graphics are pixel-aligned horizontally

Here are some photos (fixed/original) of my 640x480p LCD displaying Mario Kart Wii both with and without the 480p fix. This is great because the 1:1 pixel output allows you to see the differences at a sub-pixel resolution.

It's best if you download full size photos and compare them in an image viewer rather than your web browser.

Places to look for differences
1. e of Channel (less anti-aliased in fixed version)
2. inside the a of Back (less anti-aliased in fixed version)
3. glasses frame on my Mii (frame is solid single pixel in fixed version, original is spread over two pixels)
4. Ms of Main Menu (better defined in fixed)

thank you for the comparison pictures and the explanation :)
it's really on a pixel level that you can see the difference, and like you said mostly on 1:1 display device.

on a 4k TV it's already processed by the tv to fit the screen and I didn't understand what or where to look.

I might not see it myself on my TVs, but I guess if other people can benefit from it I'll add the patch from Leseratte :)
so, I guess the option could be named "480p pixel alignment fix" ? it's a little long, but if it fits in the menu I'll go with that. if not, i'll just use "480p fix" but users might wonder what it does if they don't notice any differences.

That sounds good.

Extrems, the guy to credit with finding the solution, has referred to it as "pixel perfect" (link)

But whatever you suggest is good I am sure.

And thanks for adding it!

I'm reading the history of the fix, but for now I think "480p pixel perfect fix" or "pixel perfect 480p fix" are better descriptions

Extrems has said they have no recommendation (other than "pixel alignment" being incorrect)

Hi all, just tested this version, but am i the only one having problems with it? Because this version of USB Loader GX won't save settings at all, when i'm powering down my wii an boot it up again, it is back to default. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks Draxikor, will checkout the USBLoaderGX r1271 patched.7z version from blackB0x. @Bladeoner is it possible to fix your version so that it will save settings?

Hi there I cannot fix my version, I suggest tp use blackB0x version. What I can do is place blackB0x version at the beginning of the thread to avoid confusion. The thing is there is a problem with the source that's why we experience this issue.
