I'm a new guy here, used the forum as guest a bit prior, but not much. I probably can find the info by searching extensively, but quite frankly, I'm lazy.

So... why do I sense a lot of hate on TX? They seem to be working hard (for profit? That's the issue?), why the hate?

Much obliged.

They use code from open-source projects, without following the licensing conditions/crediting its original authors, effectively stealing the code.
They have done extremely shady things, including starting a paid piracy subscription service.
There's a lot more shady stuff they have done, but I don't have the patience to get into that.

Why would you open a thread for that? There are such reasons and such reasons. You buy the product from TX for cash and not that you have to like TX. TX is a company and not a person. Why don't you open a thread why so many people hate Apple?

I rather ask, then pretend I know. Sorry to have bothered you with my question.
Also, I believe there is a deeper question than literal taste.

As for all the other answers, thank you, much enlightening.

Anyone choosing to hate TX will do so because of reasons concerning morality. It has nothing to do with the quality of the product they sell.

If you had to ask this question, chances are you dont care anyway. In which case you shouldn't have bothered asking in the first place. Just do what you want to do and let others do the same, and everyone will happily get along here. :D

Quite the opposite in fact. I asked because I didn't know and I cared to know.
I mean care about the morality of using SXOS. The only reason anyone would pay for a SXOS license is for piracy, which means you don't care about the moral issues with using piracy, in which case you probably wouldn't care about the moral issues around TX stealing the open source work of others and implementing it in their product.

Everyone who asks about TX will know what sort of products they sell. So realistically by learning that they steal code from people, you probably aren't going to suddenly have a change of heart regarding whether you still want to buy it or not.

EDIT
Which is why I said that the only thing that should really concern you is whether there are any noteworthy issues with the product they sell, and the answer is no.

Stealing from guys that make things for free, then sell it for profit is quite different than piracy of content from a giant corporation. I just disagree with that statement of yours entirely... but this is quite debatable, I realize that.

Now, all that being said, my question was really only about knowing why people are hating on TX. I didn't know their background, nor did I had any preconceived idea. Now I know and knowing is half the battle.

I fail to see what I did wrong when trying to get info on the cie... maybe I should have phrased the title differently, but that really was just to grab the attention of people that actually knew about it. So once again, sorry to have bothered you.

i'm sorry, but is this eof? i'm lost and this sure looks like eof

tx likes to reappropriate open source code for profit
it's pretty much down to whether or not you're a developer that this concerns you or not
if you've been behind the scenes in the community you know the sheer hours of work put in to dumb down hacking enough for the end user is monstrous, and watching tx profit off it is incredibly frustrating
at the same time, the end user actually doesn't give a single fuck what goes into making hacking possible, as long as they can easily pirate games
scires can talk about "muh standards" for his audience of a few dozen (myself included, to be fair) until he crumbles to dust from the sheer frustration, but it won't make a difference to steve, who just wants to play breath of the wild without paying 60 bucks

tl;dr piracy with standards is a hard sell to the broad community, but gbatemp is the breeding ground for the particular kind of person who gives a shit about who gets credit and who gets paid

By all means, take this thread down if I did anything wrong... jeez, I didnt thought I would summon such drama by simply asking why TX is being hated.

srsly...

You haven't bothered me.
I just assumed you knew their background but were asking for people's opinion on them. If you didn't know then fair enough. I guess now you do.
I didn't mean to make this a debate on morals. We're all different. Do what you think is right and let others do what they want to do.

To be honest sx os is useless now. Yes they have got usb xci loading but who uses that now that xci can be installed without splitting. Atmosphere has regular updates & more support where as sx os updates are very slow. Look at 7.0 support. They have made there money.Just look at the gateway 3ds fiasco.

I was fine using NSPs, but I bought SXOS purely for the sake of playing XCIs off of USB HDDs. That's literally the only benefit of SXOS to me, but it was good enough to justify the price IMO.

Well, to be fair, if my mom had to use a CFW on a Switch, she would probably not start on GitHub and assemble a project :). Point being, it is hard to find something more dumb proof than the SX PRO, so that is probably the #1 selling point.

Now, I will definitely have a look at Atmosphere and other options, tks for that clarification.

I use it, dude. It's a brilliant feature, and I pretty much just install a handful of games for use on the move, with the wide majority of them on my HDD.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It won't be long before usb loading will be available for free. The scene moves that quick.
I was being told it would be available real soon last August, and yet here I am in April. It's regrettable, ReiNX is way more stable, but it just doesn't have the features I need to use the Switch the way I want to.

Main reason why I got an SX Pro was for the dongle, homebrew and EmuNAND. No Switch piracy. Didn't necessarily need to buy the Pro because the free version allowed homebrew, but I used EmuNAND with it to keep myself hidden.

Now, I use Atmosphere with title replacement for homebrew under SysNAND (and have had no issues or bannings), and with RCMReboot (which is also used when the system crashes), I've basically stopped using SX stuff altogether.

I don't hate SX, but I don't really need them anymore.
